Gürpınar (Kurdish: Payizawa/Xawesor, Armenian: Հայոց Ձոր, romanized: Hayots' Dzor) is a village and district of Van Province in Turkey. The administrative center is located 20 km (12 mi) south of the provincial capital Van. With an area of 4,700 km2, Gürpınar is the largest district of Turkey. It has 79 villages and several places of historical interest. Much of the residents of this area speak Kurmanji, the most commonly spoken dialect of the Kurdish language. The current mayor is Hayrullah Tanış from the Justice and Development Party (AKP). The current kaymakam Fatih Sayar was appointed in August 2019.

Mit einem Fünftel der Fläche ist Gürpınar die größte Gemeinde und hat die geringste Bevölkerungsdichte der Großstadtgemeinde. Sie besteht aus 79 Ortsteilen (Mahalle), die vor der Verwaltungsreform noch Dörfer (Köy) waren. Gürpınar hieß früher Kiğzi. Dieser Name stammt vom armenischen Wort für Insel ab. Die Verwaltungseinheit hieß auf Türkisch Avasor. Dieser Name ist trotz des kurdischen Anscheins („Rotes Wasser“) armenischen Ursprungs (Hayots-tzor) und bedeutet „Das Tal von Hayk“. Dies geht auf die Burg Hayk zurück, die sich im Mahalle Çavuştepe befindet. In der Gemeinde befinden sich die armenischen Kloster Surp Marinos und Hogots, die nach dem Völkermord an den Armeniern zerstört wurden. (de)
