- Gérard Lecomte (1926 – 17 April 1997) was a French Arabist. He was professor of Arabic at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales, and editor of the journal Arabica and the second edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islam. He was honoured with the rank of knight of the Légion d'honneur. He is the father of the French journalist and writer . (en)

Il était professeur d'arabe littéral à l'École nationale des langues orientales vivantes, devenue en 1971 Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales. Directeur de la revue Arabica, spécialiste du philologue et théologien arabe Ibn Qutayba, il était chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. Il participa à la rédaction de l’Encyclopédie de l'Islam. Il a eu quatre enfants : Bernard Lecomte, Christian Lecomte, Catherine Valles et Françoise Bednarski. (fr)
