- Dem Gardekorps gehörten bis 1918 sämtliche Gardetruppenteile der Preußischen Armee an. Sie hatten – mit Ausnahme des Königin Augusta Garde-Grenadier-Regiments Nr. 4, das zeitweilig in Koblenz stationiert war – grundsätzlich ihre Garnison in der preußischen Haupt- und Residenzstadt Berlin sowie der Residenz Potsdam und den Städten und Gemeinden zwischen Berlin und Potsdam, die erst 1920 zu Groß-Berlin kamen. In Berlin führte täglich eine Formation des Gardekorps den Wachaufzug Unter den Linden aus. Nach einem bestimmten Schlüssel kam jede nicht-berittene Truppe mindestens einmal im Jahr an die Reihe. Die Wache stellte sich mit der jeweiligen Regimentskapelle vor dem Reiterstandbild Friedrichs des Großen auf und zog vor die Neue Wache, wo im benachbarten Kastanienwäldchen die Veranstaltung mit einem Konzert ausklang. Bei Beginn des Ersten Weltkrieges war der Verband der II. Armee-Inspektion unterstellt. (de)
- The Guards Corps/GK (German: Gardekorps) was a corps level command of the Prussian and then the Imperial German Armies from the 19th century to World War I. The Corps was headquartered in Berlin, with its units garrisoned in the city and nearby towns (Potsdam, Jüterbog, Döberitz). Unlike all other Corps of the Imperial German Army, the Guards Corps did not recruit from a specific area, but from throughout Prussia and the "Imperial Lands" of Alsace-Lorraine. The Corps served in the Austro-Prussian War. During the Franco-Prussian War it was assigned to the 2nd Army. In peacetime the Corps was assigned to the II Army Inspectorate but joined the 2nd Army at the start of the First World War. It was still in existence at the end of the war in the 4th Army, Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht, on the Western Front. The Corps was disbanded with the demobilisation of the German Army after World War I. (en)

Reparti scelti, reclutati tra personale dotato di eccellenti requisiti fisici, sottoposti ad una rigida disciplina e ad un rigoroso addestramento, le unità della "Guardia reale prussiana" (create praticamente insieme alla nascita del Regno di Prussia nel 1640, come forza armata a disposizione del sovrano) erano le formazioni più prestigiose e temute dell'Esercito prussiano, protagoniste di innumerevoli battaglie durante le guerre di Federico II, le Guerre napoleoniche, le guerre per l'unificazione tedesca (si distinsero particolarmente a Sadowa, Gravelotte e Sedan). Vennero coinvolte nell'immenso massacro della prima guerra mondiale subendo pesanti perdite soprattutto sul fronte occidentale (battaglia di Charleroi, battaglia di San Quintino e soprattutto prima battaglia della Marna, dove la Guardia venne respinta nei famosi combattimenti del contro l'armata del generale Ferdinand Foch). La Guardia prussiana venne sciolta con la fine del II Reich e del Regno di Prussia dopo la sconfitta del 1918. (it)
