Since its conception The Gourmet Society has grown at a rapid rate and now has over 25,000 members plus 1,000 restaurants. The membership with the Society means members receive 2 for 1 in the partner restaurants. The partner restaurants that participate include the restaurant chain Wagamama. The Gourmet Society's growth has been particularly noticeable in the Midlands and has attracted wide interest most significantly when Petit Blanc in Birmingham became a partner restaurant. Since then the Gourmet Society has been growing at a rate of over 100% year on year in terms of restaurants and has been heavily featured in local media. The Duke and Duchess of Rutland have written the annual foreword to the Gourmet Society which is published each year. A number of local celebrities including BBC Radio presenters have become members. The Gourmet Society run the North East Restaurant Awards, the first was held in 2007. (en)
