- الدرك الوطني الجزائري الدرك الوطني قوة عمومية ذات طابع عسكري، له علاقة خدمات وطيدة مع أجهزة الأمن الأخرى ومع الأجهزة الوطنية، له مشاركة في الدفاع الوطني طبقا للخطط المقررة من قبل وزير الدفاع الوطني وفي محاربة الإرهاب، ويتولى ممارسة مهام الشرطة القضائية والشرطة الإدارية والشرطة العسكرية، تأسس رسميا الدرك الوطني بموجب الأمر رقم 62- 19 المؤرخ في 23 أوت 1962م بكونه جزءا لا يتجزأ من الجيش الوطني الشعبي الجزائري، يسهر على السلم العمومي وتطبيق القوانين والأنظمة.و صدر آخر تعديل يتضمن تنظيم الدرك الوطني، بموجب المرسوم رقم 88– 19/ر.ج المؤرخ في 02 مايو 1988م المتضمن مهام وتنظيم الدرك الوطني، حيث تم إحداث هيئات جديدة وتغيير في بعض التسميات لبعض الهياكل، وعرفت بذلك مؤسسة الدرك قفزة نوعية على جميع المستويات في مجال حفظ النظام العام وحراسة الحدود وتأمين الوطن والمواطن ومكافحة الجريمة، بكل أنواعها وأشكالها بما فيها الجريمة الإلكترونية. - The Gendarmerie Nationale (Arabic: الدرك الوطني), is the national gendarmerie force of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. As part of the Algerian Armed Forces is commanded by a major general who reports directly to the Minister of National Defense. It was created in 1962 by Decree No.019-62 of 23 August 1962 shortly after its independence. In 2012 the gendarmerie consists of 130,000 personnel. Although generally regarded as a versatile and competent paramilitary force, the gendarmerie has been severely tested in dealing with civil disorder since 1988. It frequently has lacked sufficient manpower at the scene of disorder and its units have been inadequately trained and equipped for riot control. The gendarmerie, however, has demonstrated the ability to root out terrorist groups operating from mountain hideouts. The current commander is General , who succeeded General in 2020. (en)

Frequentemente lhe faltou mão de obra suficiente na cena de desordem e suas unidades foram mal treinadas e equipadas para controle de distúrbios. A gendarmeria, no entanto, tem demonstrado a capacidade de erradicar os grupos terroristas que operam a partir de esconderijos de montanha.
