- Gabrielle Charlotte Réju, també coneguda com a Gabrielle Réjane (París, 1856 - París, 1920) fou una actriu francesa. Debutà el 1875 amb comèdies lleugeres i vodevils i representà després obres dramàtiques. L'any 1911 assolí un gran èxit amb L'ocell blau de Maeterlinck. Fou la típica dona d'escena del moment amb grans dots interpretatius. A més d'actriu, regentà un teatre propi, el , i fins i tot debutà en el cinema. La tardor del 1899 actuà a Barcelona, on comptava amb un públic entusiasta, i aleshores visità el taller de Ramon Casas, moment en què aquest realitzà un retrat conservat actualment al MNAC, que aparegué publicat a Pèl & Ploma amb el títol «Madame Rejanne, croquis d'après nature». Segons sembla, des que el pintor francès l'havia pintat, no s'havia deixat tornar a retratar. - Gabrielle Réjane (French pronunciation: [ɡabʁijɛl ʁeʒan]), née Gabrielle Charlotte Réju (6 June 1856 – 14 June 1920), was a French actress of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The daughter of a former actor, Réjane studied at the Paris Conservatoire and made her stage debut in 1875. After eight seasons at the Théâtre du Vaudeville in increasingly prominent roles, she became leading lady at the Théâtre des Variétés, a position she combined with appearances in more substantial plays at other theatres. She became known chiefly for her roles in comedies, but made an impression in serious character parts from time to time. Her biggest success was as Catherine, the outspoken washerwoman who becomes a duchess in the historical comedy-drama Madame Sans-Gêne by Sardou and Moreau. She created the role in 1893 and played it frequently for much of her career. Among her other celebrated roles was Nora in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House in 1894, which gave the author his first success in France. Réjane appeared in major cities throughout Europe, and was particularly popular in London, where she played frequently between 1877 and 1915. She twice played on Broadway, but did not become popular with American audiences. She married the director of the Vaudeville, and starred there, but after their divorce in 1905 she opened her own theatre, which she ran until 1918. Between 1900 and 1920 she appeared in six silent films, including two versions of Madame Sans-Gêne. She was widely regarded as the embodiment of the Parisienne, and when she died in 1920 Le Figaro said that Paris had lost its soul. (en)

Notável atriz e comediante, Réjane teve sua estreia no Theatre du Vaudeville, em 1875, iniciando uma brilhante carreira e formando aos poucos um vasto repertório nos mais famosos teatros parisienses. Entre suas mais inspiradas e importantes criações destacaram-se: M Cousine (1890), de Henri Meilhac; Amoureuse (1891), de Porto-Riche; Madame Sans-Gene (1893), de Sardou, e Zaza (1898), de Berton e Simon. Imensamente admirada por artistas como Marcel Proust, Réjane abriu em 1906 seu próprio teatro em Paris, o qual batizou orgulhosamente com seu próprio nome, assim como Sarah Bernhardt. Em 1909, Réjane retornou ao Brasil, apresentando-se em São Paulo e no Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (entre 15 de julho e 22 de agosto). O teatro, inaugurado na véspera e construído graças ao estímulo do escritor Arthur Azevedo, com sua campanha na imprensa carioca de incentivo as artes nacionais, teve suas instalações ocupadas pela primeira vez pela grande companhia francesa. Durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, Réjane engajou-se admiravelmente, auxiliando as vítimas de combate com parte de sua fortuna pessoal.
