- GJ 3379 oder Giclas 99-49 (abgekürzt G 99-49) ist mit etwa 17 Lichtjahren Entfernung von der Sonne der nächstgelegene bekannte Stern im Sternbild Orion. Der Hauptreihenstern ist ein Roter Zwerg mit der Spektralklasse M3.5 V. Er hat eine scheinbare Helligkeit von 11,3. Der Stern ist also nicht mit dem bloßen Auge sichtbar. Er befindet sich im linken oberen Bereich des Orion etwas unterhalb von Beteigeuze. Seine Radialgeschwindigkeit beträgt +30,0 Kilometer pro Sekunde. (de)

It is a single star with an apparent visual magnitude of +11.31 and an absolute magnitude of +12.71, therefore, the star is not visible with the naked eye. It is positioned in the upper left part of the Orion constellation, to the SSE of Betelgeuse. This star is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +30.0 kilometers per second. In the past, this star had a relatively close encounter with the Solar System. Some 161,000±6,000 years ago, it achieved a minimum distance of 4.08 ± 0.20 ly (1.25 ± 0.06 pc). (en)

G 99-49 es una enana roja de tipo espectral M3.5V con una masa de 0,24 masas solares.Su radio es 1/4 parte del radio solar y gira sobre sí misma con una velocidad de rotación proyectada inferior a 3 km/s.Su luminosidad bolométrica —en todas las longitudes de onda— equivale al 2,3 % de la luminosidad solar.Posee un flujo magnético superficial moderado de 2000 G.En la base de datos SIMBAD, aparece catalogada como estrella fulgurante; estas son estrellas que despiden llamaradas sufriendo aumentos bruscos e impredecibles en su luminosidad.De magnitud aparente +11,33, G 99-49 se encuentra muy por debajo del umbral de brillo para que sea observable a simple vista.
