Frat rock was an early influential American subgenre of rock and roll / roots rock. Frat rock was generally characterized as very energetic and upbeat yet raw "party" rock. The genre is named after the fact that many of these bands played gigs at fraternity houses during the genre's heyday in the 1960s. Come musica di intrattenimento, allegra e sia pure grezza, era spesso suonata ai party. Canzoni come "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" e "Louie Louie", erano di facile assimilazione e strumentalmente semplici, cosi da poter essere suonate facilmente anche da altre band. Queste canzoni erano le favorite delle cover band dell'inizio degli anni sessanta, quando le band locali suonavano frequentemente alle feste private.
