He was the son of John Maurice FitzRoy, who in 1919 married Lucia Charlotte Susan Newdigate Newdegate, heiress of Sir Francis Alexander Newdigate Newdegate of Arbury Hall, Warwickshire, who took the additional surname of Newdegate and who inherited the Arbury estates on the death of his father-in-law in 1936. He came into the Arbury estates on the death of his father in 1976. He was Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire 1990–1996. He married Rosemary Norrie in 1959 and was succeeded by his son James. (en)
