- La fougerita és un mineral recentment descrit de la classe dels òxids. És l'arquetip del Grup de la fougerita dins del més gran Supergrup de la hidrotalcita d' que es presenten de manera natural. La seva estructura està basada en les capes de la brucita que contenen cations Fe2+ i Fe3+, anions O2− i OH−,amb enllaços [CO₃]2− i H₂O . La Fougerita cristal·litza en el sistema trigonal. La formula ideal per a la fougèrita és [Fe2+₄Fe3+₂(OH)12][CO₃]·3H₂O. La Fougerita es va trobar primer en sòls forestals prop de Fougères, Bretanya, França, i es va reconèixer com mineral vàlid per la International Mineralogical Association el 2002. És de color vers-blau a gris blavenc i sembla els minerals d'argila en hàbit. Aquest mineral és inestable a l'aire, i es descompon per oxidació, deshidratació i descarbonació a ferrihidrita, i finalment a lepidocrocita o goethita, Fe3+O(OH). (ca)
- Fougèrite is a relatively recently described naturally occurring green rust mineral. It is the archetype of the in the larger of naturally occurring layered double hydroxides. The structure is based on brucite-like layers containing Fe2+ and Fe3+ cations, O2− and OH− anions, with loosely bound [CO3]2− groups and H2O molecules between the layers. Fougèrite crystallizes in trigonal system. The ideal formula for fougèrite is [Fe2+4Fe3+2(OH)12][CO3]·3H2O. Higher degrees of oxidation produce the other members of the fougèrite group, namely , [Fe2+2Fe3+4O2(OH)10][CO3]·3H2O and , [Fe3+6O4(OH)8][CO3]·3H2O. Fougèrite was first found in forested soils near Fougères, Brittany, France, and recognised as a valid mineral species by the International Mineralogical Association in 2002. It is blue-green to bluish-gray in colour, and resembles clay minerals in habit, forming hexagonal platelets of submicron diameter. In this environment, it is intimately intergrown with trébeurdenite, to give varying overall ratios of Fe2+:Fe3+. The existence of two intergrown fixed-composition phases has been demonstrated by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The mineral is unstable in air, and decomposes by oxidation, dehydration and decarbonation, to ferrihydrite, and ultimately to lepidocrocite or goethite, Fe3+O(OH). (en)

- Fougeryt (zielona rdza) – minerał żelaza występujący w poziomie glejowym gleby i odgrywający istotną rolę w obiegu żelaza w przyrodzie oraz tworzeniu złoży tlenków żelaza. Budowa niebieskozielonych składników gleby występujących w warunkach dużej wilgotności i braku dostępu powietrza, określanych jako zielona rdza, badana była od kilkudziesięciu lat, jednak zaklasyfikowanie tych struktur przez jako minerału nastąpiło dopiero w roku 2004 (pod numerem IMA 2003-057). Fougeryt jest hydroksosolą, zasadowym węglanem żelaza(II) i (III) o wzorze [FeII4FeIII2(OH)12]2+·[CO3·~3H2O]2−. Jego charakterystyczne zabarwienie jest podstawą klasyfikacji danej warstwy gleby jako poziomu glejowego. Na powietrzu jest nietrwały i szybko utlenia się do FeIII(O)OH, np. lepidokrokitu lub goethytu, zmieniając zabarwienie na brązowe. Nazwa minerału pochodzi od miejscowości Fougères w Bretaniii (Francja), w pobliżu której znajduje się jego (locus typicus). Fougeryt jest aktywny w reakcjach redoks. M.in. wiąże z roztworów rakotwórcze jony chromu(VI) i redukuje je do chromu(III), tworząc przy tym nierozpuszczalne formy o strukturze goethytu. Z kolei kationy [NpVO2]+ ulegają związaniu z fougerytem, a następnie redukcji do nierozpuszczalnego neptunu(IV). Proces ten badany jest pod kątem wykorzystania do zabezpieczania odpadów promieniotwórczych po zużytym paliwie jądrowym. Neptun występuje w nim wprawdzie w ilości jedynie ok. 0,05%, ale ze względu na jego długi czas połowicznego rozpadu (ok. 2 mln lat) i dużą mobilność NpO2+ w glebie, istnieją obawy, że w odległej przyszłości mógłby on wydostać się w sposób niekontrolowany poza miejsca składowania. Redukcja do formy nierozpuszczalnej powinna zapobiec takiemu scenariuszowi. (pl)
