- Die Indy Lights ist eine Automobilrennserie in den USA. Sie ist die höchste Nachwuchsserie unterhalb der IndyCar Series. Bereits von 1986 bis 2001 gab es eine gleichnamige Aufsteigerklasse der Champ-Car-Serie, der wichtigsten Monoposto-Rennserie der CART-Organisation in den USA. Die Bezeichnung Indy Lights erhielt diese Serie 1991, gegründet wurde sie als American Racing Series (ARS). Die Indy Lights ist vergleichbar mit der heutigen Formel-1-Aufsteigerklasse Formel 2. Sie wurde 2001 wegen finanzieller Probleme des Veranstalters CART eingestellt, die Toyota Atlantic Series übernahm daraufhin die Aufgabe der Nachwuchsförderung für die Champ-Car-Serie. A similar series named Indy Lights filled the developmental role for the CART series, and ran from 1986 to 1993 as the American Racing Series and Dayton Indy Lights from 1991 to 2001. The current IndyCar sanctioned series was founded in 2002 as the Infiniti Pro Series as a way to introduce new talent to IndyCar, with the moniker Indy Lights returning in 2008 when CART and IndyCar unified. The Indy Lights champion was awarded a $1M scholarship toward the IndyCar Series, and guaranteed three races including the Indianapolis 500 during this time. CART zmagał się z dużymi problemami finansowymi, a w 1996 roku utworzono Indy Racing League. W związku z tym ostatecznie w 2002 roku doszło do usankcjonowania serii przez Indy Racing League.
