- The Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure, FFII (Nadace pro svobodnou informační infrastrukturu) je organizace založena v německém Mnichově. Původně se zabývala zejména elektronickým zpracováním dat. V současné době se FFII aktivně účastní boje proti softwarovým patentům. - Der Förderverein für eine Freie Informationelle Infrastruktur e.V., auch Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure, kurz FFII, ist ein in München eingetragener gemeinnütziger und überparteilicher Verein, der sich für freie Standards und Software einsetzt. Ziel des FFII ist die Schaffung und Verwendung von frei implementierbaren Standards, so dass Open Source und freie Software kleiner Firmen nicht im Wettbewerb um die beste Software nur auf Grund ihrer geringen Marktmacht vom IT-Markt ausgeschlossen werden können. Der Verein unterstützt Softwareanwender und Systemadministratoren in ihrem Bemühen um freie Software und Open Content wird jedoch auch von Softwareentwicklern und mittelständischen Software-Unternehmen gefördert. In diesem Zusammenhang organisiert der FFII zusammen mit anderen europäischen Nichtregierungsorganisationen Veranstaltungen und Konferenzen in Brüssel, Berlin, München, Straßburg und anderen europäischen Städten. Der Verein weist eine offene Partizipationsstruktur, die Kommunikation über offene Mailinglisten und eine Unterstützerbasis von mehr als 50.000 Personen auf. Zudem arbeitet er eng mit Datenschutz-Organisationen wie dem Arbeitskreis Vorratsdatenspeicherung zusammen. Gründer des deutschen Vereins ist der Sinologe und Software-Entwickler . - The Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII) is a non-profit organisation based in Munich, Germany, dedicated to establishing a free market in information technology, by the removal of barriers to competition. The FFII played a key organisational role and was very active in the campaign which resulted in the rejection of the EU software patent directive in July 2005. CNET awarded the FFII the Outstanding contribution to software development award for this work, which was the result of years of research, policy, and action. After the July 2005 victory, FFII has continued to defend a free and competitive software market by working towards adequate patent systems and open standards. Currently the FFII fights against software patents lobbies, not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world. It was founded as a German registered association under the name Förderverein für eine Freie Informationelle Infrastruktur (FFII) e.V. in 1999 by developer and far-right politics activist Hartmut Pilch. - De Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure, beter bekend als FFII, is een organisatie met als thuishaven München die zich aanvankelijk voornamelijk richtte op elektronische gegevensverwerking, alsmede taal en literatuur. Sedert vele jaren is de FFII gericht op het behoeden van de economie van de Europese Unie tegen het soort problemen die softwarepatenten veroorzaakt hebben in de Verenigde Staten. De FFII is actief op dit front sinds 2000 toen een poging om de Europese Patentconventie om softwarepatenten te legitimeren mislukte. De FFII is de leidende Europese NGO wat betreft deze kwestie. Door middel van samenwerking met vele andere Europese organisaties met hetzelfde doel, heeft het een bereik tot in alle naties binnen de EU.De FFII wordt ondersteund door bijvoorbeeld MKB, software-ontwikkelaars, softwaregebruikers, systeembeheerders, wetenschappers, academici en economen.
