- Exultavit cor nostrum ist ein Apostolisches Schreiben in Form einer Päpstlichen Bulle und wurde von Papst Urban IV. im Jahre 1263 geschrieben. Dieses war der erste Kontakt mit dem Führer der mongolischen Dynastie der Ilchane. Über dieses Schreiben gibt es unterschiedliche Bewertungen. Wahrscheinlich ist, dass das Schreiben eine Reaktion auf die Mitteilungen der päpstlichen Gesandten war. Als Gegengewicht gegen die Mamluken und die Türken in Anatolien betrieb Hülegü eine Bündnispolitik mit Byzanz und suchte Kontakt zu den christlichen Staaten Westeuropas und dem Vatikan. Demnach soll Hülegü die Absicht erklärt haben, neben seinen anderen Gemahlinnen auch eine byzantinische Prinzessin heiraten zu wollen. Dieses betrachtete Urban IV. als eine Annäherung an den Westen und begrüßte in dieser Bulle diesen Schritt, er deutete diese Entwicklung als Stärkung gegen die Goldene Horde. (de)
- Exultavit cor nostrum is a letter, also known as a Papal bull, from Pope Urban IV to the Mongol Ilkhanate leader Hulagu in 1263/1264. The letter was evidently in response to a message brought to Urban by John the Hungarian, who claimed to be the Mongol envoy (it was not uncommon for individuals to present themselves as envoys, even when they were not). According to John, Hulagu desired to become a Christian, and requested that Urban send a representative who would help to baptise him. Pope Urban responded with the Exultavit, which indicated that Urban had heard of Hulagu's sympathies towards Christianity through other sources. Urban cautiously welcomed Hulagu's envoy, and announced that William II of Agen, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, would be investigating further. (en)
