- El Proyecto Hidroeléctrico El Quimbo construido por Emgesa, empresa del conglomerado internacional Enel, se encuentra localizado al sur del departamento del Huila en Colombia, entre las Cordilleras Central y Oriental, a 69 km aproximadamente al sur de la ciudad de Neiva por la carretera pavimentada que de Neiva conduce a Gigante. Está localizado a unos 1.300 m aguas arriba de la confluencia del Río Páez con el Río Magdalena. Sus obras fueron oficialmente inauguradas el 25 de febrero de 2011. El proyecto será un aprovechamiento a pie de presa con capacidad instalada de 400 MW, con la cual se estima que se puede lograr una generación media de energía de 2.216 GWh/año, con un embalse que tendrá un volumen útil de 1.824 hm³ y un área inundada de 8.250 ha. En el 2008, el Ministerio de Minas y Energía anunció la asignación del Proyecto Hidroeléctrico El Quimbo con el objetivo de abastecer la demanda energética que el país requiere a futuro. Esto se logró después de concluir el proceso de Asignación de Obligaciones de Energía Firme, en el cual participaron los proyectos que entrarán en operación entre diciembre de 2013 y noviembre de 2014. - The El Quimbo Dam is a concrete faced rock-fill dam (CFRD) and hydroelectric power facility in the Huila Department of southwestern-central Colombia, approximately 69 kilometres (43 mi) south of the city of Neiva, on the Magdalena River. It is located about 1,300 metres (4,300 ft) upstream from the confluence of the Páez River with the Magdalena River. Its works were officially opened on February 25, 2011 in the presence of President Juan Manuel Santos. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country. The project was completed 4 years later, in the end of 2015. The powerhouse near the base of the dam has an installed capacity of 400 MW, which is expected to achieve an average energy generation of 2,216 gigawatt-hours (7,980 TJ)/year, with a dam that will have a live storage of 1,824 million cubic metres (1,479,000 acre⋅ft) and an inundated area 8,250 hectares (20,400 acres). The objective is to enhance the energy security and stability of the Colombian electricity supply, meeting about 8% of energy demand in Colombia with energy prospects of 1,650 gigawatt-hours (5,900 TJ) to 2034. Environmental license to implement the project was granted by Colombia's Environment Ministry, which was announced by Alvaro Uribe, the then President of Colombia, in May 2009. It is the first private sector hydro project to be built in Colombia under a new government policy. Apart from implementing the project, environmental issues that are to be addressed by the Emgesa, the project developer, are compensatory afforestation, compensation to project-affected people (no indigenous people are affected) and the protection of water supplies. Emgesa will receive, under a 20-year power contract authorized by Colombia's Comision de Regulacion de Energia y Gas (CREG), a price of US$14 per megawatt-hour for the power sold to the department. It is also intended to sell the electricity to neighbouring countries, thus boosting the national economy. В межах проекту річку перекрили кам’яно-накидною греблею із бетонним облицюванням висотою 150 метрів та довжиною 635 метрів, яка потребувала 11,2 млн м3 матеріалу. На час будівництва воду відвели за допомогою тунелю довжиною 0,5 км з діаметром 12 метрів. Крім того, на правобережжі звели допоміжну кам’яно-накидну дамбу із глиняним ядром висотою 66 метрів та довжиною 410 метрів, на яку пішло 3,15 млн м3 породи. Разом ці споруди утримують водосховище з площею поверхні 82,5 км2 та об’ємом 3215 млн м3 (корисний об’єм 2354 млн м3). Пригреблевий машинний зал обладнали двома турбінами типу Френсіс потужністю по 200 МВт, які при напорі у 122 метри повинні забезпечувати виробництво 2216 млн кВт-год електроенергії на рік. Під час будівництва комплексу окрім зазначених робіт провели вибірку 3,4 млн м3 породи (в т.ч. 0,46 млн м3 у підземних спорудах) та використали 207 тис м3 бетону. (uk)
