About: Deoraíocht

An Entity of Type: book, from Named Graph: http://dbpedia.org, within Data Space: dbpedia.org

Deoraíocht (original spelling Deoraidheacht) is an Irish-language novel by Pádraic Ó Conaire. An English translation is published under the title Exile. Published in 1910, it is arguably (Peadar Ó Laoghaire's Séadna also being a contender for the position) the most important novel from the Gaelic revival. For many critics its radical social message, its sympathy with the poor and marginalised, its tendency to convey urban life honestly and fairly and its avoidance of romanticising rural life in comparison to urban life makes it the outstanding novel of the Gaelic revival.

  • Is úrscéal í Deoraíocht a scríobh Pádraic Ó Conaire sa bhliain 1904. Meastar gurb í an chéad úrscéal nua-aimseartha dár scríobhadh i nGaeilge í. Scéal faoi Éireannach a théas ar deoraíocht go Londain Shasana atá ann, agus faoi na heachtraí a bhaineas dó tar éis timpiste a fhágas ar leathchois agus ar leathláimh é. Scéal faoi choimhthíos agus faoi fhearg freisin é a chuir tús le litríocht nua-aimseartha na Gaeilge. (ga)
