- الاتحاد الاشتراكي العربي الديمقراطي هو حزب سياسي ناصري اشتراكي ديمقراطي سوري يتخدُ من العاصمة السورية دمشق مقرًا له. تأسّس الحزب كجزء من حزب الاتحاد الاشتراكي العربي في سوريا. يشغلُ المهندس أحمد العسراوي منصب الأمين العام خلفا لحسن إسماعيل عبد العظيم يعدّ الحزب جزء من تحالف مكوّن كذاك من التجمع الوطني الديمقراطي. بعد أن حصلَ حافظ الأسد على السلطة عام 1970؛ دخل الحزب معهُ في مفاوضات حول تشكيل حكومة ائتلافية ووافقَ حينها على الانضمام إلى الجبهة الوطنية التقدمية في عام 1972. حصل في السنة الموالية انقسام داخل الحزب بسبب شرعية اعتماد الدستور السوري من عدمه. حينها قبلَ فصيل صغير تحت قيادة فوزي الكيالي بالدستور والإبقاء على اسم الجبهة الوطنية التقدمية في حين أن الزعيم جمال الأتاسي فضّلَ المعارضة فعمل على تأسيس حزب الاتحاد الاشتراكي العربي الديمقراطي. اعتُقلَ حسن إسماعيل عبد العظيم من قبل السلطات السورية في أيار/مايو عام 2011 وذلك خلال حملة شرسة على قوات المعارضة في سوريا. - The Democratic Arab Socialist Union (Arabic: الاتحاد الاشتراكي العربي الديمقراطي, Al-ittiḥād al-ishtirākī al-'arabī al-dīmūqrāṭī; French: Union arabe socialiste démocratique) is a Nasserist democratic socialist Syrian political party based in Paris, France. It was founded in a split of the Arab Socialist Union Party of Syria, with Hassan 'Abd al-Azim as its general secretary. Is part of the National Democratic Rally coalition (Arabic: التجمع الوطني الديمقراطي, Al-tajammuʻ al-waṭanī al-dīmūqrāṭī). After Hafez al-Assad took power in 1970, the ASU entered into negotiations about a coalition government, and agreed to join the National Progressive Front (NPF) in 1972. The year after, however, the party split over the adoption of a Syrian constitution in which the Ba'ath was proclaimed the "leading party" of the country. One minor faction under Fawzi Kiyali accepted the constitution, and retained both the ASU name and the NPF membership, while most members followed party leader Jamal al-Atassi into opposition, by renaming themselves the Democratic Arab Socialist Union. Hassan Ismail Abdelazim was arrested by the Syrian authorities in May 2011 as a crackdown on opposition forces in Syria. (en)

- De Democratische Arabische Socialistische Unie (Arabisch: لاتحاد الاشتراكي العربي الديمقراطي, Al-Ittihad Al-Ishtiraki Al-'Arabi Al-Dimuqratiy) is een nasseristische Arabisch socialistische oppositiepartij in Syrië. De partij is een afsplitsing van de Arabische Socialistische Unie, een partij die loyaal is aan het Ba'ath-regime en als beloning hiervoor enkele zetels in het Syrische parlement heeft. De afsplitsing vond in 1973 plaats toen het de meerderheid van ASU duidelijk werd dat de regering niet van plan was de federatieve republiek bestaande uit Egypte en Syrië weer nieuw leven in te blazen. Deze meerderheid stond onder leiding van en richtte de Democratische Arabische Socialistische Unie (DASU) op. De partij geldt sinds het begin van haar bestaan als een van de felste tegenstanders van de regering van Damascus en in 1980 vond onder het impuls van de DASU de oprichting van de Nationale Democratische Vergadering plaats, een bundeling van links-nationalistische en Arabische socialistische oppositiepartijen. Tijdens de periode van liberalisering van het regime in 2000 en 2001 kon de DASU enige min of meer legale activiteiten ontplooien. In 2011, aan het begin van de Syrische Burgeroorlog, sloot de DASU zich aan bij het gewapende verzet. Hassan Ismail Abdelazim, secretaris-generaal van de DASU werd aan het begin van de burgeroorlog op last van de Syrische regering opgepakt. Sinds 2012 maakt de DASU deel uit van het , een van de belangrijkste oppositieblokken. De partij is tegenstander van buitenlandse militaire interventie. (nl)
