- Cecili Calactí (en llatí Caecilius Calactinus, en grec Καικίλιος Καλακτῖνος) antigament anomenat per error Calantià (Calantianus) va ser un retòric grec que va viure a Roma en temps d'August. Era nadiu de Cale Acte a Sicília (d'on el seu nom Calactí). Segons Suides els seus pares eren esclaus i de religió jueva. Abans d'obtenir la ciutadania romana el seu nom era Arcagat. Quintilià el menciona, juntament amb Dionís d'Halicarnàs, com un distingit retòric i gramàtic. Va ensenyar retòrica a Roma, però no es coneixen detalls de la seva activitat. Pel títol d'una de les seves obres sabem que va estudiar oratòria romana i grega. Va escriure un gran nombre d'obres de retòrica, gramàtica i història totes perdudes actualment, però tenien alta reputació al seu temps i durant l'Imperi. Algunes de les seves obres eren teòriques, altres eren comentaris sobre els oradors grecs, i unes altres eren de contingut gramatical o històric. Suides dona aquesta relació de les seves obres:

- Kaikilios (griechisch Καικίλιος, latinisiert Caecilius; † 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) war ein griechischer Redner aus der sizilischen Stadt Kale Akte (Calacte). Der Suda zufolge war er Jude. Er gilt neben Dionysios von Halikarnassos als einer der ersten Vertreter des Attizismus als Reaktion auf den Asianismus. Sein Werk ist nur fragmentarisch erhalten. (de)
- Caecilius of Calacte was a rhetorician and literary critic active in Rome during the reign of Augustus. The main source of information about Caecilius' life is the Suda, which says that he was from Sicily, originally called Archagathus, possibly of slave origins, and Jewish. Both the Suda and Hermagoras say that he taught in Rome during the reign of Augustus. The Suda reports that he lived until the reign of Hadrian, more than a century after the death of Augustus; this is possibly due to confusion with the quaestor Quintus Caecilius Niger. A mention of Caecilius by Dionysius of Halicarnassus, who describes him as a friend in his Epistle to Pompey, may have been written as early as 30 BC and suggests that he may already have been an established critic by then. He apparently wrote works of both history and literary criticism. Athenaeus, the main source of information about Caecilius' historical works, reports that he wrote a history of the Servile Wars in Sicily, and refers to a work in which Caecilius mentioned the Sicilian tyrant Agathocles. He also apparently wrote about the literary merits of historians, praising Thucydides but criticising Timaeus and Theopompus. In his literary criticism, Caecilius championed an Attic style, writing a treatise Against the Phrygians which apparently criticised the Asiatic style of rhetoric, producing a glossary of Attic phrases, and a treatise on the difference between the Attic and Asiatic styles of rhetoric. Neil O'Sullivan argues that he was one of the earliest proponents of Atticism. He wrote an Art of Rhetoric and a work on rhetorical figures, which is quoted by Quintilian. He also wrote a treatise on the Ten Attic Orators, and individual works on the speeches of Demosthenes, Antiphon, and Lysias. Longinus' treatise On the Sublime was written in response to a work by Caecilius on the same topic. (en)

Perteneció a una de las corrientes de oratoria más importante de su época: la aticista. Llegó a la ciudad de Roma en el 5 d. C. Seguramente fue alumno de Apolodoro de Pérgamo y amigo de Dionisio de Halicarnaso. Abrió una escuela en Roma donde desarrolló su actividad docente durante la época de Augusto y Tiberio. Fue gran admirador de Demóstenes y de Lisias, pero detractor de Platón. Escribió numerosas obras retóricas: Sobre las figuras, Diferencia entre el estilo ático y asiático, Sobre los diez oradores; y obras de historia: Sobre la historia e Historia de las guerras serviles.
