- Claudette Tardif (born July 27, 1947) is a Canadian retired senator from Alberta. She was appointed to the senate by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, on the advice of Prime Minister Paul Martin, on March 24, 2005, representing the Liberal Party of Canada. Prior to entering the Senate she was a professor and dean at the University of Alberta's French-language faculty, Faculté Saint-Jean. At the time of her appointment, Tardif was vice-president of the University of Alberta. Tardif is also a longstanding advocate of minority language rights, particularly for Alberta's francophone minority. On January 18, 2007, she was named Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. On January 29, 2014, Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau announced all Liberal Senators, including Tardif, were removed from the Liberal caucus, and would continue sitting as Independents. The Senators refer to themselves as the Senate Liberal Caucus even though they are no longer members of the parliamentary Liberal caucus. Tardif retired from the Senate on February 2, 2018, five years prior to the mandatory retirement age of 75, in order to spend more time with her family. (en)

Le 24 mars 2005, Claudette Tardif est désignée sénatrice par Adrienne Clarkson, gouverneur général du Canada, sur l'avis du Premier ministre du Canada Paul Martin. Avant d'entrer au Sénat, Claudette Tardif a été professeure de langue française, à la faculté francophone du Campus Saint-Jean et doyenne à l'Université de l'Alberta. Au moment de sa nomination, elle était vice-présidente de l'Université de l'Alberta. Claudette Tardif est aussi une militante de longue date pour les droits linguistiques des minorités, en particulier pour les minorités francophones d'Alberta. Le 18 janvier 2007, elle a été nommée chef adjointe de l'Opposition au Sénat. En 2011, elle a reçu la distinction de l'Ordre des francophones d'Amérique. Durant tout son mandat, Claudette Tardif a défendu le rôle du Sénat comme défenseur des minorités canadiennes, notamment les communautés francophones vivant hors du Québec et les minorités métisses canadiennes. Avec la sénatrice franco-manitobaine Maria Chaput, Claudette Tardif milite en faveur des minorités francophones et de la capacité du Sénat de leur donner une représentation effective. Claudette Tardif a démissionné de son poste de sénatrice le 2 février 2018, plus de quatre ans avant la date de sa retraite obligatoire à 75 ans.
