Claude Frank is a German-born, American Jewish pianist whose career has included appearances with highly reputed orchestras, at major festivals, and in major recital halls around the world. Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Frank studied at the Paris Conservatoire; worked with Artur Schnabel in New York, for whom he first played in Europe; and studied composition and conducting at Columbia University. At Tanglewood he studied with Serge Koussevitzky. He has performed worldwide as a soloist with distinguished orchestras, touring the Orient, Australia, Europe, Israel and South America, and in chamber music concerts. A milestone in his career was RCA's release of his recordings of the 32 Beethoven piano sonatas and his worldwide performances of the cycle. He has appeared in joint concerts with his wife, pianist Lillian Kallir, and, in recent years, with his daughter, the renowned violinist Pamela Frank. Frank serves on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and presents master classes at Yale University, Duke University, the University of Kansas, and the North Carolina School of the Arts among many others.   • Claude Frank (* 24. Dezember 1925 in Nürnberg) ist ein US-amerikanischer Pianist deutscher Herkunft. Er begann bereits im Alter von drei Jahren mit dem Klavierspiel. 1938 floh die Familie vor der Judenverfolgung über Paris nach Spanien. Dort bemerkte ein US-Konsul das Spiel des jungen Frank und beschaffte der Familie ein Visum für die USA, wo er Unterricht bei Artur Schnabel nahm. Nach seinem Studium der Musik und Komposition in New York, unter anderem bei Paul Dessau, begann seine Karriere 1959 nach seinem Debüt mit Leonard Bernstein und dem New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Als Pianist trat er vor allem als Beethoven-Interpret und Begleiter von Kammermusik, etwa mit dem Guarneri Quartet, dem Juilliard Quartet und dem Emerson Quartet in Erscheinung. Seine 1971 erschienene und 1990 neu aufgelegte Interpretation aller Klaviersonaten von Ludwig van Beethoven gilt als eine der profiliertesten Einspielungen. Häufig tritt er auch mit seiner Tochter, der Violinistin Pamela Frank, auf. Frank arbeitet als Lehrer für Klavier, unter anderem an der Yale School of Music, und hält weltweit Meisterkurse ab.
