| - Chris Slade (born Christopher Rees, 30 October, 1946) is a British rock drummer who has enjoyed a long and varied career. He has worked with such diverse musicians as Gary Numan, Tom Jones, Olivia Newton-John (as co-members of the band Toomorrow), Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann's Earth Band from 1972 to 1978. In the early 1980s, Slade played with Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page in The Firm and also with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour on many projects over the years. Slade also was the longest-standing drummer Asia ever had from 1999-2005.
Slade probably received his highest exposure in 1989 when he was asked to join the Australian hard rock group AC/DC after their then-drummer Simon Wright had departed, beating out Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler who was rejected due to news of his firing from Guns N' Roses due to overt drug abuse. The Young brothers (Angus and Malcolm) initially hired Slade only temporarily, then asked him during the recording of the only feature album he made with them, to join the band. Slade then played on the successful The Razors Edge album and also on the tour. The brothers, however, asked Slade to leave after four years with the group and reinstated former drummer Phil Rudd, claiming that Rudd had demonstrated a "groove" more fitting their style of rock. Angus Young was heard saying, "Chris was probably the best musician in the band. We hate to lose him, but getting Phil back is worth asking him to leave."
After his departure, Slade spent a few years living in the UK countryside before receiving a call from Geoff Downes from the British progressive rock group Asia. Slade was with Asia for six years before departing in September 2005.
Slade is working on a new album with British power trio, Damage Control, as of 2006, featuring singer Spike of Quireboys, guitarist Robin George, and bassist Pete Way of UFO, as noted in the link to their website below.
Slade is also in the midst of completing an album with Japanese Heavy Metal singer Miwa.
Additionally, Slade appeared as a special guest of sorts at the Bloodstock Open Air festival in 2007, opening the show with a drum solo and covering classic AC/DC songs. Slade performed alongside Birmingham rock band Exploder. As a result of an enthusiastic marketing campaign announcing his appearance, Slade earned a mock cult status among Bloodstock fans, in much the same vein as Chuck Norris and the Chuck Norris Facts.
Slade appeared on the Iron Maiden tribute album Numbers from the Beast, in which he covered The Trooper and 2 Minutes to Midnight.
Recently, Slade appeared on DirecTV's original game show "Rock and a Hard Place" teaming with the Stars of Track and Field. (en)

Chris Slade remplace ensuite l'immense Cozy Powell auprès de Gary Moore avant de rejoindre AC/DC en 1990.
Avec AC/DC, il enregistrera les albums Razor's Edge (1990) et le double AC/DC Live (1992) ainsi que le single Big Guns (1993) puis devra quitter le groupe suite au retour inopiné de Phil Rudd.
