The Chevrolet Citation was a compact car sold by the Chevrolet brand of American automaker General Motors from 1980 through 1985. The Citation (originally to be the "Condor") and its X-body siblings, were among the first compact front wheel drive vehicles sold by GM. Gebaut wurde der Chevrolet Citation als Nachfolger des beliebten Chevrolet Nova von Frühjahr 1979 bis 1985 in insgesamt 1,63 Millionen Exemplaren. Nach einem überaus erfolgreichen ersten Modelljahr (mit über 800. 000 produzierten Einheiten) sackte der Verkauf stark ab; Ursache dafür war, dass der Citation als das Auto mit den bis dahin meisten Rückrufen in die Annalen einging. Ab Modelljahr 1984 trug der Wagen offiziell die Bezeichnung Citation II, wohl um auf die zahlreichen konstruktiven Verbesserungen hinzuweisen, die ihm zuteil geworden waren. Im Gegensatz zu den sonst üblichen großformatigen amerikanischen Autos war der Chevrolet Citation mit einer Länge von 4,50 Metern geradezu klein geraten. GM reagierte damals auf den Kundenbedarf nach ökonomischeren Motoren und bot dieses Auto als V6 oder 4-Zylinder an. Einen Citation mit V8 wird man also nicht finden.
