- Keltischer Kalender ist ein Begriff einerseits für das Kalendersystem antiker keltischer Kulturen und andererseits für die mittelalterlichen und neuzeitlichen Kalender der inselkeltischen Völker. Zwischen beiden bestehen nur wenige Gemeinsamkeiten, beispielsweise die Namen gallisch samoni- und irisch Samhain oder Samuin, die auf einen altkeltischen Festkreis hinzuweisen scheinen. Weiter gehende Kontinuitäten von antiken zu mittelalterlichen keltischen Kalendern sind umstritten. Selon les sources irlandaises, branche celtique qui a subsisté, l'année celtique était rythmée par quatre grandes fêtes religieuses au caractère obligatoire, dont deux majeures : Samain au 31 octobre ou 1er novembre (selon notre calendrier) et Beltaine au 30 avril ou 1er mai, et deux de moindre importance : Imbolc le 1er ou le 2 février et Lugnasad le 1er août. - Il calendario celtico era suddiviso in periodi di tempo legati soprattutto all'astronomia ed alle stagioni, per ovvi motivi di attività relative alla pastorizia, all'agricoltura, alla pesca e alla cacciagione. I periodi di tempo erano cadenzati da feste e ricorrenze di carattere rituale e propiziatorio, spesso legate a momenti periodici sia solari che lunari. I solstizi e gli equinozi solari segnavano momenti significativi del percorso del sole, ovvero la massima altezza nel solstizio d'estate, minima nel solstizio d'inverno, e intermedia agli equinozi. Tracciando, infatti, il percorso apparente del durante l'intero anno, continuato anche sotto l'orizzonte, i Celti ottennero la forma geometrica della spirale, simbolo molto utilizzato nelle loro rappresentazioni. L'anno celtico era il periodo di tempo con il quale i Celti (le antiche popolazioni di lingua celtica sparse nell'Europa nord-occidentale e centrale dall'Età del Ferro al II secolo a.C. circa), misuravano l'intero anno solare.
