- Katvalda (1. století) byl markomanský vůdce, který v roce 18 ovládl Marobudovu říši, když sesadil markomanského krále Marobuda z trůnu. Informace o Katvaldovi se dochovaly v análech římského historika Cornelia Tacita. Katvalda byl ve sporu s Marobudem a tak žil v exilu mezi Góty. Po bitvě v Teutoburském lese zahájil římský vojevůdce Germanicus tažení do Germánie na východ od Rýna s cílem pomstít porážku Varových legií Arminiem, v důsledku toho rostly obavy mezi germánskými kmeny, hlavně Góty. Této situace využil vlivný Říman Drusus Caesar k rozsévání nesvárů mezi Góty a popuzování ke zničení Marobudovy říše, která byla po bitvě s Arminiem oslabená. V roce 18 Katvalda získal pomocí korupce na svou stranu gótské šlechtice a vrátil se s velkou silou do Marobudovy říše, zaútočil na pevnosti a sesadil Marobuda. V říši nalezl mnoho bohatství nahromaděné plundrováním okolních kmenů Svébů a také okrádáním obchodníků z římských provincií, kteří přicházeli do říše kvůli svobodě obchodu a kvůli touze zbohatnout. Marobud unikl do římské provincie Noricum a odtud do Ravenny. Katvaldu krátce po obsazení Marobudovy říše v roce 19 porazil Vibilius, král Hermundurů. Katvalda byl stejně jako Marobud nucen hledat útočiště v Římském impériu. Odešel do Fora Julii v provincii Gallia Narbonensis. Aby Barbaři, kteří ve vládě následovali Marobuda a Katvaldu, již nenarušovali severní část římské provincie Noricum, rozhodli se Římané území za Dunajem mezi řekami Marus a Cusus svěřit jejich spojencům Kvádům a vládou pověřili Vannia. Va haver de fugir de la violència de Marabod, però quan el poder d'aquest va començar a declinar, va reunir un gran nombre de guerrers i va envair el país dels marcomans. Marabod va haver de fugir creuant el Danubi i va demanar la protecció de l'emperador romà Tiberi el 19. Catualda no va gaudir molt de temps del poder doncs fou derrotat pels hermundurs sota el seu cabdill Vibili (Vibilius) i fet presoner essent enviat als romans que el van retenir a Forum Julium a la Gàl·lia Narbonesa. - Catualda (flourished in 1st century AD) was a Marcomannic exile who deposed the Marcomannic king Maroboduus in 18 AD. Catualda is mentioned in The Annals of the Roman historian Tacitus. Following the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, while Germanicus was avenging Rome beyond the Rhine, Drusus attempted to divide and conquer the tribes within the vast realm of the Marcomannic ruler Maroboduus. Drusus established relations with Catualda, a young Marcomannic noble living in exile among the Gutones. After the weakening of Maroboduus following the previous invasion of Bohemia by Arminius, Catualda returned with a "strong force" in 18 AD, and having "corruptly won over the nobles", entered the palace and deposed Maroboduus. In an adjacent fortress, Catualda "found the long-accumulated plunder of the Suevi and camp followers and traders from our provinces who had been attracted to an enemy's land, each from their various homes, first by the freedom of commerce, next by the desire of amassing wealth, finally by forgetfulness of their fatherland." Catualda was however soon defeated by the "overwhelming strength" of Vibilius of the Hermunduri, and was like Maroboduus forced to seek refuge in the Roman Empire. He was thus settled in Forum Julii (Fréjus) in Gallia Narbonensis. The Marcomanni were subsequently ruled by the Quadian client king Vannius, who was himself also deposed by Vibilius in coordination with own nephews. (en)

Aangezien dit het eerste is dat de primaire bron Tacitus in zijn Annales over Catualda vertelt is niet duidelijk waarom het conflict tussen de twee ontstond. Rond het jaar 19, toen Maroboduus' macht sterk aan het afnemen was vond Catualda de tijd rijp zich te wreken op de Marcomannische koning. Hij drong door in het hartland van de Marcomanni en riep zichzelf tot koning uit. Maroboduus vluchtte naar Ravenna waar hij politiek asiel van Tiberius kreeg. Militaire steun tegen Catualda kreeg hij echter niet. Catualda verging het vervolgens niet goed. Door de vijanden die nog steeds actief tegen hem waren, werd de Hermunduren gevraagd zich tegen Catualda te keren.
