L'àlbum del grup de Matthew Bellamy ha sigut criticat per alguns fans per tenir un estil una mica diferent, i és que a diferència d'aquest en els anteriors treballs només componia Matthew i en aquest tots tres. Aquest, el seu quart treball d'estudi, segueix la línia estilística del seu anterior disc, Absolution, amb un estil musical menys agressiu i molt més fosc, a més de comptar amb lletres més ideològiques que en els seus dos primers treballs. Aquest disc té un cert so urbà, com posa de manifest la cançó "Supermassive Black Hole", no obstant això, Bellamy assegura que sempre li va agradar aquest estil i que ja tenia pensat desenvolupar-lo abans d'haver-los escoltat. Das Album wurde – wie auch bereits der Vorgänger Absolution – von (u. a. Franz Ferdinand) produziert und von Warner Music vertrieben. Für das Artwork wurde der Künstler Storm Thorgerson verpflichtet, der durch seine Arbeiten für Pink Floyd und Led Zeppelin bekannt ist. Das Artwork zeigt vier Männer, die in einer Marslandschaft an einem Tisch sitzen. Die erste Single Supermassive Black Hole, die bereits zwei Wochen vor dem Erscheinen des Albums veröffentlicht wurde, erreichte Platz 4 der britischen Charts. - Black Holes and Revelations is the fourth studio album by the English rock band Muse, first released on 3 July 2006 through Warner Bros. Records and Muse's Helium-3 imprint. Muse recorded Black Holes and Revelations over four months in New York and southern France with producer Rich Costey. It saw a change in style for Muse, with influences including Depeche Mode, Millionaire, Lightning Bolt, Sly and the Family Stone, and music from southern Italy. Like their previous albums, it features political and dystopian undertones, with lyrics covering topics such as political corruption, alien invasion, revolution and New World Order conspiracies, as well as more conventional love songs. Black Holes and Revelations received positive reviews and appeared on many year-end lists. It received a Mercury Prize nomination and later appeared in the 2007 version of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The album entered the charts at number one in five countries, including the United Kingdom, and in the top 10 in several other countries. It was later certified triple platinum in the UK and platinum in the US. Singles "Supermassive Black Hole" and "Knights of Cydonia" were both UK top-10 hits, while "Starlight", "Map of the Problematique", and "Invincible" all charted within the top 25.
