- متلازمة المرأة المُنتهكة (بي. دبليو. إس.)، هي نمط من العلامات والأعراض التي تظهر لدى امرأة سبق وأن تعرّضت لعنف متكرر من الشريك الحميم، سواء كان هذا العنف نفسيًا أم جسديًا أم جنسيًا على يد شريك ذكر (عادةً). صُنّفت المتلازمة في التصنيف الدولي للأمراض (الطبعة التاسعة) (الرمز: 995.81) تحت مسمى متلازمة الشخص المُنتهك، لكنها لم ترد في الدليل التشخيصي والإحصائي للاضطرابات النفسية (الطبعة الخامسة). تُشخص هذه المتلازمة أحيانًا على أنها إحدى الفئات الفرعية لاضطراب الكرب التالي للصدمة النفسية (بّي. تي. إس. دي.). تُعتبر هذه الحالة أساس الدفاع القانوني عن المرأة المُنتهكة، إذ استُخدمت في العديد من القضايا التي تنطوي على قتل النساء المُعفنات جسديًا ونفسيًا لشركائهن الذكور. تُعتبر لينور إي. ووكر أول من درس هذه الحالة بالتفصيل، إذ استعانت بنظرية مارتن سيليغمان حول العجز المتعلَّم لتفسير سبب مواصلة النساء لعلاقاتهن مع الرجال المُسيئين. قد يُشخص الرجال أحيانًا بهذه المتلازمة التي غالبًا ما تتمحور حول النساء، لكن يُطلق عليها حينها اسم متلازمة الشخص المُنتهك، ولا سيما عند استخدامها كجزء من الدفاع القانوني. - Battered woman syndrome (BWS) is a pattern of signs and symptoms displayed by a woman who has suffered persistent intimate partner violence: whether psychological, physical, or sexual, from her male partner. It is classified in the ICD-9 (code 995.81) as battered person syndrome, but is not in the DSM-5. It may be diagnosed as a subcategory of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The condition is the basis for the battered woman legal defense that has been used in cases of physically and psychologically abused women who have killed their male partners. The condition was first researched extensively by Lenore E. Walker, who used Martin Seligman's learned helplessness theory to explain why women stayed in relationships with abusive men. Although the diagnosis has mainly centered on women, it has occasionally been applied to men when employing the term battered person syndrome, especially as part of a legal defense. It is similar to an insanity plea and has been criticized by survivor advocates as being outdated terminology not used outside of courts. But, because courts are slow to change, many are stuck with using it as a way to introduce specific evidence. The newer term used among advocates and outside of the courts is . (en)

- Syndrom bitej kobiety (ang. battered woman syndrome), rzadziej zespół maltretowanej żony (ang. battered wife syndrome) – ogólna nazwa różnego rodzaju konsekwencji stosowania przemocy wobec żony. Rodzaje stosowanej przemocy są różne: fizyczna (bicie), emocjonalna (dokuczanie), seksualna, ekonomiczna (pozbawianie środków do życia). Podejmowanie interwencji w takich sprawach jest bardzo trudne, ponieważ kobiety nie są skłonne do oficjalnego oskarżania mężów (zależność ekonomiczna, wiara w to, że on się zmieni, zbytnia bierność), zaś mężczyźni usprawiedliwiają się i uzasadniają swoje zachowanie prowokacją ze strony małżonki.
