August Sangret (28 August 1913 – 29 April 1943) was a French-Canadian soldier, convicted and subsequently hanged for the September 1942 murder of 19-year-old Joan Pearl Wolfe in Surrey, England. This murder case is also known as the "Wigwam Murder". The murder of Joan Pearl Wolfe became known as "the Wigwam Murder" due to the fact the victim had become known among locals as the "Wigwam Girl" through her living in two separate, improvised wigwams upon Hankley Common in the months preceding her murder, and that these devices proved to have been constructed by her murderer.

dbp:quote
  • "I thought it had begun in the dell where Joan's papers were found, probably with the stabbing attack on her head ... She must have run downhill, screaming with pain and fear, inviting pursuit to silence her. Her crucifix ornament must have been torn or pulled away and the contents of her handbag spilled out as she ran ... Dizzy and faint because of her head wounds and with blood running from her head wound into her eyes, she was already stumbling at the rivulet, where a tripwire had been laid by exercising troops ... She fell heavily, knocking out her front teeth and further dazing herself, but was almost certainly still able to cry out for help, still inviting a silencing injury ... Lying prone, with her right cheek on the ground, when she was struck the final blow with the birchwood [bough]." (en)
