- تأسس الاتحاد الليبرالي العربي في القاهرة عام 2008م تحت اسم «شبكة الليبرالين العرب» وتم انتخاب وائل نوارة عن حزب الغد المصري ليكون أول رئيس للشبكة.ثم تم تغيير اسم الشبكة إلى «التحالف العربي للحرية والديمقراطية» عام 2011م، لتفادي الفهم الخاطئ لكلمة «ليبرالي» في بعض الدول العربية، وقد شارك التحالف العربي للحرية والديمقراطية في الليبرالية الدولية.وفي مؤتمر تونس عام 2016م أتخذت الجمعية العمومية قراراً تغيير الاسم ليصبح «الأتحاد الليبرالي العربي». - Die Arabische Allianz für Freiheit und Demokratie (AAFD, arabisch التحالف العربي للحرية والديمقراطية) ist ein Netzwerk liberaler politischer Parteien, Organisationen und Aktivisten aus arabischen Staaten. Sie wurde 2008 in Kairo unter dem Namen Netzwerk Arabischer Liberaler (NAL) gegründet. von der ägyptischen al-Ghad-Partei wurde zu ihrem ersten Präsidenten gewählt. Das Netzwerk erhielt im Jahre 2011 ihren heutigen Namen – als Reaktion auf die negative Konnotation, die die Bezeichnung ‚liberal‘ in einigen arabischen Ländern hat. Das Netzwerk ist mit der weltweiten Liberalen Internationalen verbunden. Es erhält Unterstützung von der europäischen Partei Allianz der Liberalen und Demokraten für Europa und der deutschen Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung. (de)

It was formed in 2008 in Cairo under the name of Network of Arab Liberals (NAL). Wael Nawara of the Egyptian El-Ghad Party was elected as a first president. The network was renamed The Arab Alliance for Freedom and Democracy in 2011, reacting to the negative connotations that the term 'liberal' has in some Arab countries. In March 2016, the Alliance was renamed to its current name using the term 'Liberal' as ideological identification. The network is affiliated to Liberal International federation, and receives support from the European ALDE Party and the German Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the VVD of Netherlands. (en)

Se formó en 2008 en El Cairo bajo el nombre de Red de Liberales Árabes (RLA). Wael Nawara del partido egipcio al-Ghad fue elegido como primer presidente. La red pasó a llamarse Alianza Árabe para la Libertad y la Democracia en 2011, en reacción a las connotaciones negativas que tiene el término 'liberal' en algunos países árabes. En marzo de 2016, la Alianza pasó a llamarse por su nombre actual utilizando el término 'Liberal' como identificación ideológica. La red está afiliada a la federación Internacional Liberal y recibe el apoyo del europeo Partido ALDE, la alemana Fundación Friedrich Naumann y el VVD de Holanda. (es)
