Anna Leonowens (November 5, 1831 - January 19, 1915) was the British teacher portrayed in the book and film Anna and the King of Siam and in the musical The King and I. The musical play, based on adaptations of her memoirs, provides a fictionalised look at her life in the royal court of Siam (present-day Thailand). In later life she moved to the United States and finally to Canada, continuing her work in education and co-founding the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
