The Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (APNI) is a political party in Northern Ireland. It has long sought to bridge the gap between the province's two main communities and is avowedly non-sectarian, being relatively moderate on matters concerning Unionism over Irish nationalism, and on religious matters involving Protestantism and Catholicism, thus making it Northern Ireland's largest political party that is not allied with any of these viewpoints.

  • Die Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (Alliance) ist eine überkonfessionelle und liberale Regionalpartei in Nordirland. Sie wurde 1970 gegründet. Die Partei unterstützt die Union mit Großbritannien, solange die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung dieser Lage zustimmt. Die Partei steht aber auch für formale Verflechtungen Nordirlands mit der Republik Irland. In den Verhandlungen um das Karfreitagsabkommen war die Alliance Party eingebunden und warb für eine Zustimmung bei dem darauf folgenden Referendum. In der britischen Politik orientiert sich die Partei an den Liberal Democrats, auf europäischer Ebene ist sie Mitglied der Europäische Liberale, Demokratische und Reformpartei. Mit Anna Lo zog bei den Wahlen 2007 erstmals eine Chinesin in ein europäische Parlament. Die aus Hongkong stammende Abgeordnete hat im Süden der Hauptstadt Belfast ihren Wahlkreis. Bei den Wahlen zur Northern Ireland Assembly 2007 konnte sie ihren Stimmenanteil von 3,6% auf 5,2% steigern und gewann einen zusätzlichen Sitz, so daß sie nunmehr über sieben Parlamentarier verfügt.
