Sir Alfred Ernest 'Alf' Ramsey (22 January 1920 – 28 April 1999) was a footballer and manager of the English national football team from 1963 to 1974. His greatest achievement was winning the 1966 World Cup with England on 30 July 1966. They also came third in the 1968 European Championship and reached the quarter-final stage of the 1970 World Cup and the 1972 European Championship under his management.

Between the end of his playing career and his appointment as England manager, Ramsey was Ipswich Town manager for eight years, taking them from the Third Division to the top of the First Division in that time.He bowed out of football in 1978, when manager of Birmingham City, and died in 1999 at the age of 79.
