| - Dr. Alexander Eric ("Alex") Moulton CBE is an English engineer and inventor, specialising in suspension design. Moulton is the great-grandson of the rubber pioneer Stephen Moulton, the founder of the family business George Spencer Moulton & Co. Ltd., in which he worked after World War II, specialising in rubber suspension systems for vehicles. In the late 1950s, after the acquisition of the family business by the Avon Rubber Company, Moulton started up a new company, Moulton Developments Limited, to design the suspension system for BMC's new small car, the Mini, being designed by his friend Sir Alec Issigonis. The combination of conical rubber springs and small wheels was one of the many innovative developments which allowed Issigonis to achieve the Mini's small overall size. This was later refined into the hydrolastic and hydragas suspension systems used on later British Leyland cars such as the Austin Maxi and Rover Metro. Moulton also designed the Moulton Bicycle, again using rubber suspension and small wheels. Alex Moulton Bicycles is based in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England. (en)

- Alexander Eric Moulton (* 9. April 1920 in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire) ist ein britischer Ingenieur und Erfinder. Moulton ist ein Urenkel Stephen Moultons, der als Pionier im Gebiet der Gummiverarbeitung das Unternehmen George Spencer Moulton & Co. Ltd gegründet hatte. Nachdem Avon Rubber 1956 das Familienunternehmen übernommen hatte, gründete Alexander Moulton seine eigene Firma, die Moulton Development Ltd. Er entwickelte für die British Motor Corporation und später für Dunlop die Idee der Gummifederung. Eine große Rolle spielte dabei seine Freundschaft mit Alec Issigonis, dem BMC-Konstrukteur, dessen bekannteste Schöpfung der mit Gummifederelementen ausgestattete Mini wurde. Das teilbare und gummigefederte Moulton Fahrrad ist, ebenso wie der Mini ein Nebeneffekt der durch die Suezkrise verhängten Benzin-Rationierungen in England. Beide, Moulton Fahrrad und Mini, wurden 1959 vorgestellt und hatten sowohl eine Gummifederung als auch kleine Reifen. Das Moulton Stowaway Faltrad hatte 16"-Hochdruckreifen, der Mini eine 10"-Bereifung. 1985 bis 1988 war Moulton Vizepräsident der Royal Academy of Engineering. Bereits 1976 wurde er für seine Verdienste in den Order of the British Empire im Rang eines Commanders aufgenommen.
