Alex Hay (born 1933) is a Scottish professional golfer, golf instructor, writer and a former BBC sports commentator. Hay is best known for his commentating partnership with Peter Alliss where their banter, often displaying humour or wit became regarded by many as the "Voice of Golf".

He is a former Ryder Cup referee. Hay was born in Edinburgh. He was educated at Musselburgh Grammar School. He joined Ben Sayers as an apprentice golf club maker before becoming assistant to Bill Shankland at Potters Bar. He was the professional at East Herts and Dunham Forest for 13 years and was formerly the managing director of the Woburn Golf Club in England. He was a professional golfer until 1994 and commentated for the BBC between 1978 and 2004. He co-presented all the major golf tournaments with fellow commentator Peter Alliss during this period and Hay and Alliss were renowned for their great rapport and charisma on television, and enduring friendship outside of the commentary. Hay has since retired from broadcasting but is still actively involved in the professional golf scene. He is noted for his golfing instruction particularly the techniques of the swing. He has written numerous works on the subject. His son David, also a golfer, is proprietor of the Gallobanese Restaurant in Woburn. (en)

Er arbeitete zunächst an der Scottish Stock Exchange, der schottischen Börse. Seine große Liebe galt aber von Anfang an dem Golfsport. Hay wechselte deshalb den Beruf und begann eine Ausbildung zum Schlägermacher bei der altehrwürdigen Firma Ben Sayers in North Berwick. Dann lernte er als Assistent beim strengen Golfpro Bill Shankland im Potters Bar Golf Club in London. Seine erste selbständige Trainerstelle bekam Hay beim East Herts Golf Club, wo er sich bald einen guten Ruf erwarb. Es folgten weitere Stationen und sein Ansehen wuchs beständig. Die führende Fachzeitschrift Golf Illustrated engagierte ihn als Berichterstatter und Alex Hay begeisterte die Golfwelt mit seinem unverwechselbaren und unterhaltsamen Stil, der ihn seit der The Open Championship Übertragung 1978 bei BBC-TV bis in die Gegenwart zu einer fixen und unverzichtbaren Größe werden ließ.
