- Arnold's giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea arnoldi), also known as the Seychelles saddle-backed giant tortoise, is a tortoise subspecies in the genus Aldabrachelys. It inhabited the large central granitic Seychelles islands, but was hunted in vast numbers by European sailors. By around 1840 it was presumed to be extinct, along with the Seychelles giant tortoise, a subspecies which shared the same islands. It was recently rediscovered. Currently, less than a hundred individuals exist. Several had been reestablished in the wild on forested islands such as Silhouette, but were evicted in 2011 by the Seychelles Islands Development Company (IDC). (en)

Intorno al 1840 si presumeva fosse estinta, insieme alla tartaruga gigante delle Seychelles, una sottospecie che condivideva le stesse isole. Recentemente la sottospecie è stata riscoperta. Sono noti meno di cento individui. Diverse sono state reintrodotte in natura su isole boscose come Silhouette, ma sono stati sfrattati nel 2011 dalla Seychelles Islands Development Company (IDC). Por volta de 1840, presumia-se que estava extinta, junto com a Aldabrachelys gigantea hololissa, uma subespécie que compartilhava as mesmas ilhas. Foi redescoberta em 1995. Atualmente existem menos de cem indivíduos. Vários foram restabelecidos na natureza em ilhas florestadas como a Ilha Silhouette, mas foram expulsos em 2011 pela Companhia de Desenvolvimento das Ilhas Seicheles (IDC, na sua sigla em inglês).
