| - Alfred (Al) Wilhelm Taubenberger is a Republican politician from Northeast Philadelphia. He has run for office three times, losing every time. He was the Republican candidate for mayor of Philadelphia in 2007, losing 83% to 17% to Michael Nutter. A child of German immigrants, Taubenberger was raised in Philadelphia's Burholme neighborhood. His first job was as grounds supervisor at Friends Hospital. He later held staff jobs for Republican Congressman Charles F. Dougherty in the early 1980s and later for two City Council members, Democrat Joan Krajewski and Republican Jack Kelly. Taubenberger has run for Congress twice, losing both times. In 2002, he lost the Republican primary to Melissa Brown . In 2004, he finished third in a three-way race. He received only 17% of the vote in the 2007 mayoral election, losing every ward in the city. The margin of victory was the largest since 1931. Following the election, Taubenburger offered to help Nutter in any way he can, and said he and his former opponent planned to talk again soon. Taubenberger is also president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the founder and president of the Burholme Civic Association and Town Watch. Taubenberger has been married twice and has 4 children. His children, Matthew, Elisabeth, and Sarah were produced from his first marriage to his ex-wife Barbara Taubenberger. His youngest son, William is from his second wife Joanne (née Brenner) Taubenberger. (en)
