Bartın is a city in northern Turkey and the central district of the province of Bartın. Formerly a district of Zonguldak Province, Bartın was made into a province seat in 1991 with the constitution of its province, including four districts: Central Bartın, Amasra, Kurucaşile, and Ulus. The city, with a population of c. 48,000, is situated 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) inland on the Bartın River (Bartın Çayı) that is navigable for vessels between the city and the Black Sea coast. Bartın River is the only navigable river for vessels in Turkey.

Die Stadt ist im Osten, Westen und Norden von steilen Bergen umgeben. Der höchste Berg in der Umgebung ist der Keçikıran-Gipfel mit 1619 Metern Höhe. Die Stadt wurde elf Kilometer südöstlich der Stelle gegründet, wo der Bartın Çayı ins Schwarze Meer mündet. Die Stadt geht zurück auf das antike Parthenia in Paphlagonien. Schiffe mit einer Ladung von bis zu 500 Tonnen können die Stadt erreichen. Damit ist Bartın der einzige Binnenhafen der Türkei. Die türkische Marine betreibt in Bartın einen Stützpunkt. Der Landkreis Bartın bedeckt 46,8 % des Provinzterritoriums und grenzt im Westen an die Provinz Zonguldak. Er hat unter den vier Kreisen der Provinz die höchste Einwohnerzahl und auch die höchste Bevölkerungsdichte. Neben der Kreisstadt gibt es zwei weitere Städte (Kozcağız mit 7.027 und Hasankadı mit 2.265 Einwohnern) sowie 137 Dörfer, von denen 60 mehr Einwohner als der Durchschnitt (507 Einw.) haben. Das größte Dorf der Provinz (Tuzcular, 2.181 Einw.) liegt hier, ebenso alle weiteren sechs Dörfer über 1.000 Einwohner: Epçiler (1.199), Geriş (1.178), Yıldız (1.062), Terkehaliller (1.043) und Karainler (1.016).
