Suchet has indicated his desire to film all the remaining stories in the canon. By most critics, Suchet's characterisation is considered to be the best of all the actors who have played Poirot, and very accurate to the character in the books. Suchet said that he prepared for the part by reading all the Poirot novels and every short story, and copying out every piece of description about the character.
Many writers have adapted Agatha Christie's book for television, with Clive Exton and Anthony Horowitz the most prolific. (en)

Poirot var opprinnelig belgisk politisjef, men emigrerte til England under første verdenskrig og slo seg opp som privat etterforsker. Han er en eksentriker hvis spesialiteter innbefatter å bruke sine «små grå» hjerneceller fremfor makt, samt å samle alle involverte på slutten for å peke ut den (eller de) skyldige. Som regel tilstår vedkommende basert på hans indisier.
Poirots assistent, kaptein Hastings, er en lett naiv eksoffiser som gjennom trivielle bemerkninger ofte setter mesterdetektiven på sporet av løsningen. Førstebetjent Japp ved Scotland Yard er en brysk politimann av den håndfaste typen, men har gjennom årene erfart at når Poirot er til stede er en sak sjelden så enkel som den kan virke på overflaten.
Første sesong ble vist i 1989. Episodeformatet utviklet seg med enkelte dobbeltepisoder fra annen sesong, og fra 1995 fullengdes fjernsynsfilmer. Dette gav rom for større tyngde og alvor i historie og karakterfremstilling. Suchet, som i 2003 ble delprodusent, har ytret ønske om å filmatisere de resterende Christie-fortellingene om Poirot. (no)
