- Die Adult Film Association of America (AFAA) war der erste Verband der US-amerikanischen Produzenten von Pornofilmen. Sie kämpfte gegen Zensurbestimmungen und versuchte, die Branche gegen Strafverfolgung nach den US-amerikanischen Obszönitätsbestimmungen zu schützen. Jährlich verlieh sie Branchenfilmpreise, die Erotic Film Awards, bei denen der Erotica Award als Trophäe vergeben wurde. Die AFAA wurde 1969 in Kansas City, Missouri gegründet. Ihr erster Präsident war Sam Chernoff von der Astro-Jemco Film Co. Andere bekannte Präsidenten waren der Filmproduzent David F. Friedman, 1971 als dritter Präsident gewählt und vier Mal wiedergewählt, bevor er schließlich Vorsitzender des Beirats (Chairman of the Board) wurde, und die Pornodarstellerin und Zeitschriftenverlegerin (High Society) Gloria Leonard. Die AFAA verlieh von 1976 bis 1985 die seinerzeit bedeutendsten Filmpreise für die Pornofilmbranche. In späteren Jahren wurde die Verleihung zunehmend der Manipulation bezichtigt. Die Verleihung von Preisen an den Film Virginia im Jahr 1984 (für das Jahr 1983) führte zur Gründung der Kritikerorganisation X-Rated Critics Organization, die bis heute den einzigen Kritikerpreis der Branche verleiht. Die AFAA Awards wurden schließlich als bedeutendste US-amerikanische Pornofilmpreise von den AVN Awards abgelöst, die seit 1984 veranstaltet werden. Mit dem Aufkommen der Pornovideos benannte sich die AFAA in Adult Film and Video Association of America (AFVAA) um.
