- En telecomunicacions, una femtocel·la és una estació base petita en grandària i potència, dissenyada per a l'ús en llars o negocis. Normalment, que es connecta a la xarxa del proveïdor de servei a través d'una connexió de banda ampla cablejada, típicament DSL o fibra òptica .Una femtocel·la permet als operadors de servei estendre la seva cobertura en interiors, i a part d'aixó permet que s'alliberin canals de comunicació de les estacions base properes a ella. La femtocel·la incorpora la funcionalitat d'una típica estació base, però l'amplia per permetre un desplegament més senzill i autònom. Una femtocel·la UMTS conté un Node B (l'estació base pròpiament dita juntament amb un enllaç troncal, normalment ADSL. - Eine Femtozelle (engl. femto cell) ist eine Funkzelle mit minimaler räumlicher Ausdehnung. Sie ist eine kleine Sende- und Empfangsstation, die in verhältnismäßig kleinen, teilweise privaten Bereichen, wie zum Beispiel in der eigenen Wohnung oder einzelnen Räumen innerhalb von Gebäuden, zum Einsatz kommt und das Netz des jeweiligen Mobilfunkanbieters erweitert. Femtozellen werden unter anderem in folgenden Funknetzen verwendet:
* Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) zum Bereich der Daten- und Sprachkommunikation.
* CDMA2000, primär im Nordamerikanischen Raum.
* WiMAX oder 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) für drahtlose Datenübertragung Die Nutzung ist mit jedem Teilnehmergerät möglich, so der entsprechende Standard unterstützt wird. Der Nutzen von Femtozellen liegt in der Erschließung funktechnisch schwierig erreichbarer Orte, aber vor allem auch in der Kapazitätserweiterung in bereits versorgten Gebieten. Oft werden Femtozellen in Ladengeschäften der Mobilfunkanbieter installiert um die Netzversorgung zum Zwecke der Demonstration angebotener Endgeräte herzustellen oder zu verbessern. Femtozellen können der Allgemeinnutzung zugänglich sein (CSG-open femto cell / open access femto cell) oder aber einem geschlossenen Benutzerkreis (CSG-closed femto cell / closed access femto cell) vorbehalten sein. Die Femtozelle wird ergänzend in öffentliche Mobilfunknetze eingebunden, so dass eine unterbrechungsfreie Übergabe von Verbindungen zwischen der Zelle und Nachbarzellen erfolgt. Die Anbindung an das des Mobilfunkbetreibers erfolgt über einen privaten Breitband-Internetanschluss. Die Femtozelle wird dabei kabelgebunden an das private Internetgateway (meist in Form eines DSL- oder Kabelmodems) angebunden. Die Datenübertragung zwischen Femtozelle und dem Core Network ist verschlüsselt. Da die Anbindung an das Core Network des Mobilfunkbetreibers über bestehende private Breitbandanschlüsse (meist ADSL-/VDSL- oder Kabel-Anschlüsse) bewerkstelligt wird, spart der UMTS-Provider die Kosten für Mietleitungen, die er an den Kunden weitergeben könnte. - In telecommunications, a femtocell is a small, low-power cellular base station, typically designed for use in a home or small business. A broader term which is more widespread in the industry is small cell, with femtocell as a subset. It connects to the service provider's network via broadband (such as DSL or cable); current designs typically support four to eight simultaneously active mobile phones in a residential setting depending on version number and femtocell hardware, and eight to sixteen mobile phones in enterprise settings. A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors or at the cell edge, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable. Although much attention is focused on WCDMA, the concept is applicable to all standards, including GSM, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX and LTE solutions. The use of femtocells allows network coverage in places where the signal to the main network cells might be too weak. Furthermore, femtocells lower contention on the main network cells, by forming a connection from the end user, through an internet connection, to the operator's private network infrastructure elsewhere. The lowering of contention to the main cells plays a part in breathing, where connections are offloaded based on physical distance to cell towers. Some carriers may also offer more attractive tariffs, for example discounted calls from home. Femtocells are an alternative way to deliver the benefits of fixed–mobile convergence (FMC). The distinction is that most FMC architectures require a new dual-mode handset which works with existing unlicensed spectrum home/enterprise wireless access points, while a femtocell-based deployment will work with existing handsets but requires the installation of a new access point that uses licensed spectrum. Many operators worldwide offer a femtocell service, mainly targeted at businesses but also offered to individual customers (often for a one-off fee) when they complain to the operator regarding a poor or non-existent signal at their location. Nadajnik ten łączy się z siecią operatora telefonii komórkowej za pomocą sieci internetowej zapewniając przedłużenie w swoim bliskim otoczeniu sygnału radiowego operatora komórkowego. Stacje femto uproszczono i zaprojektowano w taki sposób, aby użytkownik mógł samemu, bez większych przeszkód uruchomić je np. w swoim domu. Łączy w sobie wiele funkcji, dotychczas rozproszonych, w kilku elementach sieci telekomunikacyjnych. - Een Femtocell in de mobiele telefonie is een klein cellulair met een laag zendvermogen, dat ontworpen is om in woonhuis of een klein bedrijf geplaatst te worden. Het is door middel van een breedband internetaansluiting verbonden met het netwerk van een mobiele telefoonmaatschappij. In de huidige uitvoering voor toepassing in een woonhuis ondersteunt een femtocellstation tegelijkertijd twee tot vijf mobiele telefoons. Het voordeel voor de gebruiker is dat een femtocell binnenshuis de servicekwaliteit verhoogt in gevallen waar er geen zendmast in de buurt is, de snelheid van het datanetwerk hoger is en de batterij van het mobiele toestel langer meegaat omdat het radiosignaal zwakker is. Voor de mobiele telefoonmaatschappij heeft de technologie het voordeel dat de verbinding tussen het basisstation en het mobiele netwerk over het vaste netwerk loopt, en dat daardoor de telefoonmaatschappij zijn bereik en de capaciteit van het mobiele netwerk kan uitbreiden zonder extra investeringen in het radionetwerk. Anderzijds moet de operator gateways installeren tussen het vaste en het mobiele core netwerk. Hoewel veel aandacht wordt besteed aan femtocells voor UMTS, kunnen femtocells ook gebruikt worden voor gsm, , en WiMAX. - Een Femtocell in de mobiele telefonie is een klein cellulair met een laag zendvermogen, dat ontworpen is om in woonhuis of een klein bedrijf geplaatst te worden. Het is door middel van een breedband internetaansluiting verbonden met het netwerk van een mobiele telefoonmaatschappij. In de huidige uitvoering voor toepassing in een woonhuis ondersteunt een femtocellstation tegelijkertijd twee tot vijf mobiele telefoons.
