- Ein Highly Accelerated Life Test (abgekürzt HALT, englisch für stark beschleunigte Grenzlastprüfung) ist ein qualitatives Testverfahren mit dem Ziel, vorzugsweise elektronische und elektromechanische Baugruppen noch im Entwicklungsstadium einer beschleunigten Alterung auszusetzen, um Schwachstellen und Designfehler aufdecken zu können. Die dabei gewonnenen Erkenntnisse fließen in das Gerätedesign und den Produktionsprozess ein, wodurch die Robustheit und damit die Zuverlässigkeit des Produktes verbessert werden. Das Verfahren wird seit den 1980er Jahren angewandt. (de)
- A highly accelerated life test (HALT) is a stress testing methodology for enhancing product reliability in which prototypes are stressed to a much higher degree than expected from actual use in order to identify weaknesses in the design or manufacture of the product. Manufacturing and research and development organizations in the electronics, computer, medical, and military industries use HALT to improve product reliability. HALT can be effectively used multiple times over a product's life time. During product development, it can find design weakness earlier in the product lifecycle when changes are much less costly to make. By finding weaknesses and making changes early, HALT can lower product development costs and compress time to market. When HALT is used at the time a product is being introduced into the market, it can expose problems caused by new manufacturing processes. When used after a product has been introduced into the market, HALT can be used to audit product reliability caused by changes in components, manufacturing processes, suppliers, etc. (en)

- Una prova di vita accelerata (in inglese Highly accelerated life test, acronimo HALT), è una metodologia di test per migliorare l'affidabilità dei prodotti in diversi settori, tra cui l'elettronica, il bio-medicale ed in campo militare. Il test può essere condotto in varie fasi del ciclo di vita di un prodotto. In fase di sviluppo di un prodotto, quando gli eventuali cambiamenti hanno un impatto economico limitato, il test può evidenziare punti di debolezza del progetto. Nella fase di introduzione di un prodotto sul mercato, può evidenziare problemi causati dai processi di fabbricazione. Durante la vita del prodotto, dopo che questo è stato introdotto sul mercato, può essere utilizzato per controllarne l'affidabilità nel tempo, evidenziando anche problemi causati da variazioni di componenti, processi produttivi o fornitori. In questa fase il test permette di determinare tramite strumenti statistici l'affidabilità nel tempo di un dispositivo e valutare empiricamente la funzione di distribuzione dei meccanismi di guasto. Le prove di vita accelerata sono realizzate aumentando le sollecitazioni fisiche a cui viene sottoposo il prodotto, ad esempio elettriche, meccaniche, di temperatura. (it)
