  • 7zX is a file archiver for Mac OS X that handles the 7z archive file format. It was distributed to the public a few weeks after the release of the 7-Zip Command Line Interface for POSIX systems, which it still uses as the default compression/decompression engine. With the passing time, 7zX started including a number of features, including: * 7zX supports archiving Macintosh resource forks, Spotlight metadata, and other Mac-specific information, using AppleDouble encoding as of version 1.6 and the proprietary s7z format in earlier versions; * it can create self-extracting archives, which will expand on any computer with Mac OS X 10.3 or newer even if the 7zX software isn't installed on the host machine; * it can compress archives directly from the Finder contextual menu (requires Mac OS X 10.4); * it enables users to encrypt their archives with the AES-256 algorithm, and automatically recognizes password-protected archives; * it is compiled as an Universal Binary; * it supports Growl, a powerful notifications system for Mac OS X. Since version 1.5, many of the additional options provided by the 7-Zip compression core can be also accessed directly from within the 7zX application. (en)
