- 3C 454.3 is a blazar (a type of quasar with a jet oriented toward Earth) located away from the galactic plane. It is one of the brightest gamma ray sources in the sky, and is one of the most luminous astronomical object ever observed, with a maximum absolute magnitude of -31.4. It has the brightest blazar gamma ray flare recorded, twice as bright as the Vela Pulsar in the Milky Way galaxy. It also flares at radio and visible wavelengths – in red light, the blazar brightened by more than 2.5 times to magnitude 13.7 – and it is very bright at high radio frequencies. It appears in Pegasus, near Alpha Pegasi (Markab). It has been known to occasionally outburst, brightening to a peak apparent magnitude of 13.4 in June 2014. (en)

C'est l'une des sources de rayons gamma les plus lumineuses du ciel, et constitue l'un des objets astronomiques les plus lumineux jamais observés, avec une magnitude absolue maximale de -31,4. Il possède la plus brillante source de lumière gamma blazar enregistrée, deux fois plus brillante pour nous que PSR B0833-45 (le pulsar des Voiles, de la Voie lactée), mais surtout beaucoup plus lointain, à 7,7 milliards d'années lumière. Il brille également aux longueurs d'onde radio, et visibles - en lumière rouge, le blazar s'est éclairé de plus de 2,5 fois à la magnitude 13,7 et il est très brillant aux hautes fréquences radio. Il apparaît dans la constellation de Pégase, près d'Alpha Pegasi (Markab). Il nous a envoyé en juin 2014 des éclats atteignant une magnitude apparente maximale de 13,4. (fr)
