  • 2Pacalypse Now est le premier album solo de Tupac Shakur, sorti en novembre 1991 chez Interscope Records. Le titre est une référence au film Apocalypse Now (1979) sur la guerre du Vietnam. Ce premier album apparaît comme le plus manifestement politique. Il dénonce des problèmes sociaux tels que la brutalité de la police, la pauvreté, les grossesses d'adolescentes et la drogue. Certains rappeurs comme Nas ou Talib Kweli se sont inspirés de cet album pour réaliser leurs propres opus. Cet album a été sacré disque d'or, c'est un très belle récompense étant donné que cet album est le premier que Tupac a réalisé. 2pacalypse Now reste important en présentant la conviction politique et le talent lyrique de Tupac. Benché meno efficace dei suoi seguenti album per quanto riguarda i beats, rimane comunque un ottimo lavoro lirico prettamente a sfondo politico, incentrato su problemi sociali quali la brutalità della polizia statunitense, la povertà, la gravidanza in giovane età, l'uso di droga. Un efficace excursus nel mondo di un giovane ragazzo di colore delle strade degli USA. L'album è poi diventato disco d'oro. L'album generò anche una forte polemica da parte di Dan Quayle, convinto che tale lavoro incitasse la gioventù texana a sparare alle forze dell'ordine, per la forza con cui sottolineava il tema della brutalità poliziesca. Il disco non ha realizzato lo stesso successo degli album seguenti, soprattutto per la qualità approssimativa dei beats, ma già si notavano nel disco le eccezionali capacità liriche di Tupac, sottolineate in particolare dai due brani Brenda's Got a Baby e Trapped.
