- El 26è Festival Internacional de Cinema de Berlín va tenir lloc entre el 25 de juny i el 6 de juliol de 1976. L'Os d'Or fou atorgat a la pel·lícula estatunidenca dirigida per Robert Altman. La pel·lícula japonesa Ai no korīda de Nagisa Oshima va ser confiscada durant la seva estrena a la Berlinale i prohibida després d'una resolució judicial. - The 26th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 25 June – 6 July 1976. The Golden Bear was awarded to the American film Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson directed by Robert Altman. The Japanese film In the Realm of the Senses by Nagisa Oshima was confiscated during the Berlinale premiere of the film and banned after a court hearing. Charlie Chaplin's 1957 film A King in New York was also screened at the festival. (en)

Dies war das letzte Festival unter der Leitung des Gründungsdirektors Alfred Bauer, dessen Vertrag am 30. November 1976 auslief. Bauer ging anschließend in den Ruhestand. Zum 200. Jahrestag der Unabhängigkeitserklärung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika stand die Geschichte der USA im Mittelpunkt des Festivals. zeigte seinen Dokumentarfilm America at the Movies, Robert Altman Buffalo Bill und die Indianer. Im Wettbewerb stand außerdem der Watergate-Film Die Unbestechlichen (außer Konkurrenz) von Alan J. Pakula und im Programm des Internationalen Forums des Jungen Films wurde der Dokumentarfilm The Unquiet Death of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg gezeigt. Ein weiterer kritischer Beitrag zur amerikanischen Geschichte war die Wiederaufführung von Charlie Chaplins Film Ein König in New York. Der größte Skandal fand während des Forums statt. Der japanische Film Im Reich der Sinne von Nagisa Ōshima wurde während der Berlinale-Premiere von der Staatsanwaltschaft konfisziert und nach einer Gerichtsverhandlung verboten. Erst 1978 wurde das Verbot aufgehoben und der Film kam in die deutschen Kinos. (de)

Direttore del festival è stato per il ventiseiesimo e ultimo anno Alfred Bauer. L'Orso d'oro è stato assegnato al film statunitense Buffalo Bill e gli indiani di Robert Altman. Le retrospettive di questa edizione sono state dedicate all'attrice Eleanor Powell e ai grandi film tedeschi del periodo 1929-1932. Sono inoltre proseguite quelle iniziate nell'edizione precedente dedicate all'attore Conrad Veidt e ai cortometraggi tedeschi degli anni trenta. (it)

- 26. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Berlinie odbył się w dniach 25 czerwca-6 lipca 1976 roku. W konkursie głównym zaprezentowano 22 filmy pochodzące z 18 różnych krajów. Jury pod przewodnictwem polskiego reżysera Jerzego Kawalerowicza przyznało nagrodę główną festiwalu, Złotego Niedźwiedzia, amerykańskiemu filmowi Buffalo Bill i Indianie w reżyserii Roberta Altmana. Drugą nagrodę w konkursie głównym, Srebrnego Niedźwiedzia – Nagrodę Specjalną Jury, przyznano meksykańskiemu filmowi w reżyserii Felipe Cazalsa. Kontrowersyjny japoński film Imperium zmysłów w reżyserii Nagisy Oshimy został skonfiskowany podczas premiery na festiwalu i nałożono na niego sądowy zakaz publicznego rozpowszechniania. (pl)
