- El llançament de martell masculí al Campionat del Món d'atletisme de 2009 van tenir lloc a l'estadi Olímpic de Berlín els dies 15 i 17 d'agost. Amb l'actual campió sancionat per dopatge, els medallistes d'or i argent olímpics, Primož Kozmus i , eren els favorits de la prova. Pars va arribar al Campionat amb la millor marca de l'any (81.43 m) i una ratxa de 18 competicions seguides guanyant. El bielorús i el rus , els altres dos únics atletes que havien llançat dues vegades per damunt de vuitanta metres eixa temporada abans dels campionats, formaven part també del grup de favorits. , , , , i també entraven en les apostes per guanyar medalla. El primer dia de competició, Kozmus va ser el primer a classificar-se automàticament en passar de la barrera dels 77.50 m. Pars va fer el millor llançament del dia amb 78.68 m, mentre que l'anterior campió mundial Ziółkowski va liderar el grup A amb un llançament de 77.89 m. Els aspirants a medalla Sokolov, Shayunov i Karjalainen van fallar i no es van classificar per la final. Mezi 34 startujícími z možných uchazečů o medaili kvalifikací neprošel z Finska (74,09 m), neuspěl ani Čech Lukáš Melich, který hodem 74,47 m (74,40 72,98 74,47) zaostal za svým osobním maximem o téměř pět metrů a obsadil 14. místo. Kvalifikační limit pro finále činil 77,50 m, na postup do mezi nejlepší dvanáctku přitom stačil výkon 75,38 m. Hody finalistů celkově dost zaostaly za očekáváním a paradoxně tak účast v užší finálové osmičce po třech pokusech mohl zajistit hod na úrovni pouhých 73,72 m. S berlínským kruhem měl potíže zejména hlavní favorit sezóny 2009 Krisztián Pars, zatímco relativně dobrou sérii pokusů předvedli olympijští vítězové Szymon Ziółkowski a Primož Kozmus. Kozmus se usadil na čele druhým pokusem a závěrečným nejdelším hodem celé soutěže své vítězství ještě podtrhl. Trápícího se Parse sesadil zdařilým posledním pokusem z bronzové příčky . (cs)
- The Men's Hammer Throw event at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on August 15 and August 17. With reigning champion Ivan Tsikhan banned from competition for doping offences, the 2008 Olympic gold and silver medallists Primož Kozmus and Krisztián Pars were the favourites in the event. Pars entered the competition with a world-leading throw of 81.43 m and an 18 competition win-streak. Belarusian Yuriy Shayunov and Russian Aleksey Zagornyi, the only other athletes to have thrown over eighty metres twice that season prior to the championships, were identified as possible podium finishers. Nicola Vizzoni, , Olli-Pekka Karjalainen, Szymon Ziółkowski, Koji Murofushi, and Libor Charfreitag were all predicted to have an outside chance of a medal. On the first day of competition, Kozmus was the first to pass the automatic qualifying mark of 77.50 m. Pars had the best effort of the day with 78.68 m, while former world champion Ziółkowski led group A with a throw of 77.89 m. Aspiring medallists Sokolov, Shayunov and Karjalainen all failed to progress to the final of the competition. On the final day of the hammer throw, the favourite Kozmus delivered a best of 80.15 m to take the gold medal, Slovenia's first ever in the World Championships. Ziółkowski's 79.30 m, the best of his season, was enough to take the silver – his first medal at a major championships since 2005. The level of the competition, however, failed to live up to expectations: the world-leader Pars started poorly and, after a number of fouls, he never regained ground and finished in fourth place. Weltmeister wurde der aktuelle Olympiasieger und Vizeweltmeister von 2007 Primož Kozmus aus Slowenien.
