- Die Wahlen zum Repräsentantenhaus der Vereinigten Staaten 2004 fanden am 2. November dieses Jahres, also am Ende der ersten Amtsperiode von Präsident George W. Bush, statt. Am selben Tag wurden auch die Wahlen zur Präsidentschaft, die Senatswahlen und in einigen Staaten auch durchgeführt. Die Republikanische Partei konnte ihr gutes Ergebnis von 2002 behaupten. Sie verlor nur minimal an Stimmenanteil, konnte auf Wahlkreisebene sogar drei Mandate hinzugewinnen und damit ihre absolute Sitzmehrheit im Repräsentantenhaus noch etwas ausbauen. Die Demokraten verloren trotz leichter prozentualer Wählerstimmengewinne, bedingt durch das Mehrheitswahlrecht, zwei Mandate. Als einziger parteiungebundener Kandidat war erneut Bernie Sanders in Vermont erfolgreich und konnte seinen Distrikt mit 67,4 % der Wählerstimmen behaupten. Der vorangegangene Wahlkampf war durch außenpolitische Themen dominiert. Wie bei den Wahlen zwei Jahre zuvor spielte der Krieg gegen den Terrorismus (War on Terror) eine große Rolle. Von größter Bedeutung war der Irakkrieg 2003 mit der darauf folgenden Besetzung des Landes. Die Debatten um die Irak-Politik polarisierten die Wählerschaft. Der Republikaner Dennis Hastert aus Illinois blieb Speaker des Repräsentantenhauses. Abgewählt wurden die Abgeordneten Max Burns (Georgia/R), Phil Crane (Illinois/R), Baron Hill (Indiana/D), Max Sandlin und Martin Frost (beide Texas/D). (de)
- The 2004 United States House of Representatives elections were held on November 2, 2004 to elect all 435 seats of the chamber. It coincided with the reelection of President George W. Bush as well as many Senate elections and gubernatorial elections. In the 108th Congress, Republicans held 227 seats, Democrats held 205, with two Republican vacancies and one independent. As a result of this election, the 109th Congress began composed of 232 Republicans, 201 Democrats, one independent (who caucuses with the Democrats), and one vacancy (Democrat Bob Matsui won reelection, but died just two days before the beginning of the 109th Congress.). Democrats won open seats in , , and while ousting incumbents in and . Republicans won an open seat in Kentucky and multiple seats in Texas while ousting an incumbent in Indiana. Two seats in swapped party control. George W. Bush became the first Republican president to have his party gain seats in consecutive elections for the first time since Teddy Roosevelt in 1902 and 1904. As of 2022, this is the last election in which someone who was not from the Democratic or Republican party was elected to the House (Independent Bernie Sanders). Republicans would not make consecutive net gains in the House (after gaining seats in the 2002 election) until 2020 and 2022. This was also the last election in which the Republicans made any gains in a Presidential election year until 2020. (en)
