- The 2002–03 Scottish Premier League (known as the 2002–03 Bank of Scotland Premier League for sponsorship reasons) was the fifth season of the Scottish Premier League (SPL), the top level of football in Scotland. It began on 3 August 2002 and concluded on 25 May 2003. Celtic were the defending champions, but were beaten to the title by Rangers on the final day of the season. This was Rangers' 50th Scottish league title. Both clubs went into the final matchday on the same number of points and with the same goal difference – Rangers were ahead in the table having scored more goals. On the final day, Rangers beat Dunfermline Athletic 6–1 at Ibrox Stadium while Celtic could only win 4–0 at Kilmarnock, meaning Rangers won the title by a goal difference of one more than Celtic. This was the closest finish in the history of the SPL. (en)

In der Saison 2002/03 traten 12 Vereine in insgesamt 38 Spieltagen gegeneinander an. Jedes Team spielte jeweils einmal zu Hause und auswärts gegen jedes andere Team in der 1. Runde. Danach wurde die Liga auf zwei Hälften geteilt, in denen die Mannschaften noch einmal gegeneinander spielen. Bei Punktgleichheit zählte die Tordifferenz. Die Glasgow Rangers gewannen zum insgesamt 50. Mal in der Vereinsgeschichte die schottische Meisterschaft. Die Rangers qualifizierten sich als Meister für die Champions League Saison-2003/04. Vizemeister Celtic Glasgow spielte auch in der Champions League wegen der verbesserten Position von Schottland in der UEFA-Fünfjahreswertung. Der unterlegene Pokalfinalist, der FC Dundee, sowie der Drittplatzierte Heart of Midlothian qualifizierten sich für den UEFA-Pokal. In dieser Saison gab es keinen Absteiger in die First Division, weil der eigentliche Aufsteiger, der FC Falkirk keine Lizenz bekam. - La 106e édition du championnat d'Écosse de football est remportée par le Rangers Football Club. C’est son 50e titre de champion. Les Rangers l’emportent avec le même nombre de points que le Celtic FC. Les deux clubs sont départagés à la différence de but, favorable aux Rangers. Le Heart of Midlothian complète le podium. Le système de promotion/relégation reste en place : descente et montée automatique pour le dernier de première division et le premier de deuxième division : Motherwell FC termine à la dernière place et doit donc normalement descendre en deuxième division. Or Falkirk FC qui a terminé à la première place de la deuxième division et qui doit en théorie monter dans l’élite ne remplit pas les critères économiques demandés par la Ligue écossaise pour jouer en D1.
