- A four-part referendum was held in Lithuania on 20 October 1996 alongside the first round of parliamentary elections. Voters were asked whether they approved of three amendments to the constitution and whether money from the sale of state property should be used to compensate those who lost their Soviet-era savings due to inflation. The three constitutional amendments would reduce the number of members of the Seimas, fix the date for elections to be in the spring, and to reserve at least 50% of government expenditure to social spending. Although all four were approved by at least 76% of those casting valid votes, voter turnout was only 52-53%, meaning that the threshold of 50% of all registered voters voting in favour was not passed, and the referendums failed. Il comprend 4 questions dont la réduction du nombre de membres du parlement, la fixation des élections au printemps, l'utilisation des fonds perçus par les privatisations, ainsi que l'utilisation des fonds publics pour les dépenses sociales. Il a eu une participation de 52,1 %. La réduction des membres du parlement a été approuvée à 77,9 %, les élections au printemps à 76,2 %, les dépenses sociales à 76,1 % et l'utilisation des fonds des privatisations à 79,5 %.

- Референдум в Литве был проведён 20 октября 1996 года одновременно со первым туром парламентских выборов. Избиратели должны были одобрить три поправки к Конституции Литвы, согласно которым сокращалось число членов Сейма Литвы, выборы должны были проводиться только весной, а государственные расходы на социальные цели устанавливались в размере не менее 50 % бюджета. Также граждане должны были решить надо ли деньги от вырученные от приватизации государственной собственности использовать для выплат компенсаций тем кто в связи с инфляцией потерял свои советские сбережения. Хотя по всем четырём вопросам проголосовали «За» большинство избирателей, принявших участие в голосовании, из-за низкой явки решения не были приняты. (ru)
