Zen Arcade is the third studio album from the American punk rock band Hüsker Dü, released in July 1984 on SST Records. Originally released as a double album on two vinyl LPs, Zen Arcade is a concept album about an adolescent who runs away because his home life is unfulfilling, only to find the world outside is even worse. The album incorporates elements of jazz, psychedelia, acoustic folk, pop, and piano interludes, concepts previously unheard of in the world of hardcore punk.

Definito dal critico italiano Piero Scaruffi "La Divina Commedia del punk", è infatti un disco dall'enorme importanza storica. Si tratta molto probabilmente del massimo capolavoro dell'hardcore nonché uno dei più importanti dischi punk, vera e propria Bibbia per tutti i gruppi della scena hardcore-punk melodico degli anni '90 in quanto fu di impulso alla nascita di centinaia di gruppi punk negli Stati Uniti. Inoltre è considerato un album fondamentale per la genesi dell'emo. Si tratta di un concept album che racconta la difficile iniziazione alla vita di un ragazzo di periferia. Non è casuale la similitudine di temi trattati con American Idiot, l'opera rock dei già citati Green Day. Il disco fu registrato nel 1984 in pochissime ore di sala di registrazione; alcuni pezzi furono incisi già alla prima esecuzione per mancanza di tempo. Anche questo ha contribuito alla brutale violenza dei suoni e alla fungosità delle esecuzioni. Notevole la scelta di stemperare temporaneamente la tensione con l'inserimento di due mini sonate per tastiera, One step at time e soprattutto Monday will never be the same. Ma tra le tracce trova anche spazio la psichedelia, l'industrial e atmosfere noise degne dei Sonic Youth.
