In 1989 he became the member of the inspectorate of the Ministry of the Defense of the USSR. In the years 1971 - 1989 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He also served 3 terms as a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Yevgeni F. Ivanovski spent his last years living in Moscow, where he died on 22 November 1991. He was buried at Novodevichy Cemetery. He has published a memoir.
