- The Wurundjeri are a people of the Indigenous Australian nation of the Woiwurrung language group, in the Kulin alliance, who occupy the Birrarung Valley, its tributaries and the present location of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to European settlement, they lived as all people of the Kulin nation lived, sustainably on the land, predominantly as hunters and gatherers, for tens of thousands of years. Seasonal changes in the weather, availability of foods and other factors would determine where campsites were located, many near the Birrarung and its tributaries. Wurundjeri people spoke the Woiwurrung language. The term Wurundjeri is paired with the term Woiwurrung in that both refer to the same region. Wurundjeri refers to the people who occupy the territory, while Woiwurrung refers to the language group shared by the clans within the territory. The Wurundjeri peoples territory extended from north of the Great Dividing Range, east to Mount Baw Baw, south to Mordialloc Creek and west to Werribee River. Their lands bordered the Gunai/Kurnai people to the east in Gippsland, the Bunurong people to the south on the Mornington Peninsula, and the Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurong to the north. Wurundjeri people take their name from the word wurun meaning Manna Gum which is common along the Birrarung, and djeri, a grub found in the tree.

En 1842, un corps de police autochtone fut créé, basé à Narre Warren puis, plus tard, déménagé à Merri Creek. En 1863, les survivants de la tribu Wurundjeri et autres tribus parlant le Woiwurrung se réinstallèrent de force dans la Coranderrk Station, près d'Healesville. En dépit de nombreuses pétitions, lettres, et délégations auprès de colons et du gouvernement fédéral, l'octroi de ces terres à titre de compensation pour leur pays perdu leur a été refusée. Coranderrk a été fermé en 1924 et ses occupants à nouveau déplacés vers le lac Tyers au Gippsland.
- De Wurundjeri of Koorie is een volk in Zuidoost-Australië. Een deel van de Wurundjeri's leven op de vlakte van de Yarra, daar waar nu Melbourne ligt. Na tien jaar waren er nog slechts drie- tot vierhonderd Aborigines over, die al gauw volkomen afhankelijk waren van de kolonisten. Over hun religieuze ideeën en geestelijk leven is erg weinig bekend, behalve dat de vlanleden waren verdeeld over twee groepen, die huwelijkspartners uitwisselden. De ene groep werd Arend genoemd, de andere Kraai. De Wurundjeri's maakten ook deel uit van een clanverbond, het zogeheten Kulin, maar tegenwoordig is het sociale leven gebaseerd op de grootfamilie. De Wurundjeri's voelen zich nog altijd geestelijk en cultureel verbonden met hun land. Ze zien zichzelf als hoeders van dit gebied, dat geschapen werd door het Dreamtimewezen Bunjil. Om de situatie van Aborigines in stedelijke gebieden te verbeteren, werd de Indigenous Land Council opgericht. Deze heeft er mede voor gezorgd dat de Wurundjeri's de oude missiepost Coranderrk konden kopen, met de bijbehorende tachtig hectare grond. Toch is dit slechts een zeer klein deel van hun oorspronkelijke grondgebied. Ook hebben ze een historische wandelroute uitgezet in Melbourne, evenals een 'bush food trail', om de bevolking bewust te maken van de geschiedenis van het gebied en de betekenis daarvan voor de Wurundjeri's. De binnenstad van Melbourne is gebouwd op een aantal begraafplaatsen, foerageergebieden, ceremoniële en heilige plaatsen, en voormalige kampementen van de Aborigines. Bordjes langs de wandelroute beschrijven hoe zij leefden.
